 Ivan is actually Jerry Ivan Allison, the drummer for The Crickets.  Jerry was born on August 31, 1939 in Hillsboro, Texas.

On September 22, 1958 Jerry’s version of REAL WILD CHILD made its Billboard Hot 100 debut.  Real Wild Child was originally recorded by Australian rock and roller Johnny O’Keefe as WILD ONE.   The song was the first Australian rock recording to reach the Australian national charts, reaching #20.  Jerry’s version was released on Coral Records and featured Buddy Holly on lead guitar.  Real Wild Child reached #68 on the Hot 100 and stayed on the chart for 5 weeks.

Although Jerry Allison did not sing on The Crickets records, he decided to record the song after a brief visit to Australia by The Crickets in 1958.  Instead of using his own name he recorded under the pseudonym “Ivan”.  The song was actually recorded as a joke by Jerry probably leading to him not using his real name on the record.  After the joke became a small hit Jerry recorded his second single, also on Coral Records, FRANKIE FRANKENSTEIN in 1959 but this time he would not make the Hot 100 chart.

Both records today are considered collectors items and are worth a good price on the market.  As for Jerry, he remained with Buddy Holly until his death and continued to tour and record with various Crickets groups over the years.  Real Wild Child has been covered by artists from Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Brian Setzer, Iggy Pop and many others over the years.  Jerry “Ivan” Allison’s version for its fun approach and “the great” Buddy Holly on guitar,  makes his version the best.

Sealed at factory and never opened. Disc is assumed to be undamaged and mint, but this cannot be proven until the album is actually opened and the disc examined.

M
 (MINT)

Perfection, no flaws, defects, marks or otherwise indications of being handled or played. Any scuffs, hairline scratches or other marks disqualify discs from this category. I do not use this grade, as even the act of inserting the disc or removing it from the paper sleeve may cause scuffmarks on the vinyl.

NM or M- 
 (NEAR MINT or  MINT MINUS)

This is highest grade that I will assign to opened, handled records. The vinyl is virtually flawless, bright and shiny. A very minor, barely visible scuff or two may be permitted, but no scratches. The disc should play with no audible noise. The label is bright, clean and unmarked.

NM-            (NEAR MINT  MINUS)

Disc plays near perfectly, but may have minor paper scuffs. There can possibly be a hairline scratch or two with very light pop or crackle. Vinyl is bright; label is clean and may show only very light marks.

VG+ 
 (VERY GOOD  PLUS)

Some visible surface wear, very minor scratches and scuffs, but minimal impact, possibly very minor sound quality loss. Vinyl will still have good luster; labels may have minor imperfections (small labels or initials, etc.) but otherwise reasonable & clean.

VG
 (VERY GOOD)

Vinyl will have noticeable scratches or scuffs that cause minor surface noise, but do not overpower the music. There will be no skips. Vinyl may appear somewhat dull and grayish. Labels may have small tears, tape marks, larger writing, etc. but still easily legible. There may be wear or deformation of the spindle hole.

G
 (GOOD)

Well-played, dull, grayish vinyl with deeper scratches and wear causing distracting surface noise (hisses, pops, cracks and other nasties). The record will still play through without any skips. Labels may be significantly defaced or damaged.

F
 (FAIR)

Unless the record is particularly rare, I would not try to sell a record in this condition. There will be major noise, surface damage, deep scratches, and skips. Attempting to listen to these discs will be painful. These discs are basically trash unless a collector desires one to fill a space in a collection until a better one comes along.
