Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Very rare/collectible 1968 Italian popsike legend = FIRST PRINTING in striking day-glo gatefold cover ... the very first album by Equipe 84 - who had obviously been listening to the Beatles and "swinging London" poprock bands alike...
EQUIPE 84 was one of the most famous italian beat group from the 60's, and with a long career starting with a debut single in 1964, they lasted until mid 70's and also had a (slightly) prog influenced period. For the most part, the storied band flew under the radar of most potential fans & collectors outside of Italy.
This four piece from Modena Italy was for the italian teenagers the local answer to the Beatles, and they had a long series of hit singles between 1966 and 1969. Equipe 84 had its first crisis in 1970 with original member Franco Ceccarelli leaving the group and drummer Alfio Cantarella arrested for drug possession, being replaced for a short time and a single by ex-Rokes drummer Mike Shepstone; later, with the help of another guest drummer, Franz Di Cioccio (from I Quelli, then Premiata Forneria Marconi), they released what is usually considered their most progressive album, "Id."
However a few years back, their first LP "STEREOEQUIPE" is usually referred to as the Italian version of Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club. In short, it is a reference most Italian pop-magazines regarded as the best ever '60's Italian rock/pop album. While some 50 years later, "Stereoequipe" is by no means a masterpiece, but back in year 1968, it certainly was. The music relies heavily on The Beatles. But Equipe 84 is by no means a Beatles clone and they did not lift a single thing from Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club either. Instead, this album relies heavily on albums like "Revolver" with some sitar playing and Indian references. That with a nod & a wink to George Harrisson.
Centering the core of this album, the Beatles were an obvious influence, while the album was also a mix of Italian pop-rock. The music is adventerous and is exploring what must have been new avenues and sounds back in 1968.
The melodies are often light hearted with lyrics referring to love, love and love. The mix of The Beatles and Italian pop-rock is what made this album work.
In short; this is a good album which I am sure deserve a classic status. It is not a Rock Progressivo Italiano album by any imagination. But it is still an enjoyable listen for the open minded listener who know how to spell the word cheese and does like a bit of cheese too now and then. This album makes me smile. Musically the album had a cohesive, if varied sound that really didn't sound particularly fragmented, or patched together.
'Nel cuore, nell'anima' showcases Maurizio Vandell's likeable voice, musically the track had a distinctive Eleanor Rigby-meets Procol Harum flavor, complete with a nifty melody and some heavy, psych-tinged orchestration. Very nice way to start the album off.
- Complete with what sounded like sitar and tabla, the pounding 'Ladro' found the band incorporating raga influences into a garage sound. Neat and quite impressive.
- One of the most commercial songs on the album 'È dall'amore che nasce l'uomo' had a nice pop feel and one of those rousing choruses that was very radio friendly.
- Kicked along by the playful melody, wistful vocals, and wonderful backing, 'Nel ristorante di Alice' was a glistening slice of power pop and easily the most accessible song on the album !
- A strange ballad '29 Settembre' (29th September), started out slowly, but once it kicked into gear, showcased another nice melody and a couple of strange spoken word segments slapped on top of it. With an English lyric, the song was actually tapped as the band's lone American single - 1967's '29 September' b/w 'Auschwitz'
- 'Un Anno' ( translates as 'One Year'), was actually a cover of Traffic's '(No Face, No Name And No Number'. To be honest, their cover won't make you forget the original, but it was a nice stab at the tune and gave bassist Sogliani a moment in the spotlight.
- The opening jet engine noises momentarily through me, but then 'Un angelo blu' ('A Blue Angel'), turned into a breezy, pop-rock number in a Paul McCartney-styled melody which may instantly win many over.
- 'Tutto è solo colore' was one of the weirdest Motown takes ever. 'Every Little Bit Hurts', finds the band working sitar, raga, and freak-out electronic influences into their repertoire with surprisingly enjoyable results. The band was featured performing the song in the 1967 Italian film "Una Ragazza Tutta d'Oro'.
- 'Hey ragazzo' was given a cool, slightly acid drenched folk-rock/garage arrangement. Nice.
- 'Per un attimo di tempo' started out as another pretty, psych-influenced ballad, included Indian percussion, droning strings, what sounded like a Themerin, and other studio effects. It all built up into a strange, freak-out ending, before closing out with what sounded like church bells.
- The album's lone instrumental 'Intermission Riff (Sigla di TV 7)' managed to meld sitar, harpsichord, show band horns, and "snake charmer" clarinet into one of the album's neatest tunes.
- A fragile mid-tempo slice of heavily orchestrated pop, to my ears 'Nella terra dei sogni' sounded a bit like The Zombies. Pretty pop number with a great hook, and very commercial, but ultimately it paled compared to some of the earlier songs.

CONDITION: The cover: Thick DAY-GLO gatefold is rated: VG+ downgraded from M- ONLY because of light moisture having been on the bottom left corner, though DRY now and very stiff, still very collectible and has a fresh appearance. The most telling of previous moisture is inside the gatefold at lower bottom center ... There are no delete marks, no split seams, no bends, and no writing ... VERY collection worthy rarity ...
