1968 CHAMAELEON CHURCH
USA - MGM RECORDS - SE 4574
Original 1968 first pressing by the legendary and sought after CHAMAELEON CHURCH, an obscure psych band from the "BOSSTOWN SOUND" '60s scene, featuring a young CHEVY CHASE on drums before he went into movie stardom...
Includes the original MGM printed inner sleeve
Can't say we know all that much about this outfit's history. Multi-instrumentalist Kyle Garrahan and guitarist Ted Myers had been in "The Lost", before hooking up with drummer Chevy Chase and multi-instrumentalist Tony Scheuren to form the CHAMAELEON CHURCH. In the process of developing the Bosstown sound, the quartet attracted the attention of manager/producer Alan Lorber, who promptly signed them to MGM.
For some reason, this one-LP outfit seems to get little respect from the collecting community and that's a shame as it is vastly underestimated. Whatever the case, it's a fact that future SNL star Chevy Chase was the band's drummer -- and 1968's "Chamaeleon Church" offers up a wonderful set of harmony rich, "flower poprock" and lite psych (do you like Left Banke and the sort?) ... Largely written by guitarist Ted Meyers, tracks such as "Come Into Your Life", "Blueberry Park" and "" bare more than a passing resemblance to the likes of Millennium and The Left Banke, though without the latter's Baroque touches ... to our ears the standout track is the infectiously strong "Camilla Is Changing".
"CHAMAELEON CHURCH" :

Camillia Is Changing
Spring This Year
Blueberry Pie
Remembering's All I Can Do
Flowers In the Field
