In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Original 1968 first pressing of a top rated Acid Archives dreamy folk psych album -- a very rare whimsical baroque guy/girl folkrock duo -- gentle and lush sounds with crystalline production, big arrangements, and an all star backing band including VAN DYKE PARKS on harpsichord and an early appearance of RY COODER laying down some spot-on electric slide guitar...
The name of the band does a great job of describing their sound. They have that fuzzy, blissed out, pretty and innocent wide-eyed psychedelic feel to them...
Rick Stanley may not be a household name, but he's paid his dues. As a singer/songwriter back in the 1960s, he hooked up with Pamela Polland and formed The Gentle Soul, a dreamy and love-drenched musical duo with an inspiration for catchy melodies and harmonies. The Gentle Soul became somewhat of a legend around the Los Angelsa area due to their frequent bookings at the famous Troubadour nightclub in 1966 and 1967. With a contingent of loyal fans and friends like Jackson Browne, Ry Cooder, and Linda Ronstadt, and getting a record deal on Columbia with Terry Melcher as producer (the Bryds and Paul Revere and the Raiders), it looked like The Gentle Soul was going to go all the way to the top of the pops. Alas, it was not to be. The band lasted only until 1969, when Stanley and Polland split up to pursue new musical directions, and The Gentle Soul was no more.
The Gentle Soul, with their only 1968 album, is beautiful, ornate and captivating, and certaily captures the optimistic vibe of the time.
The lead-off instrumental track "Overture" is a good example of what The Gentle Soul could do in the studio. Using some of the best session musicians of the era like Van Dyke Parks, Larry Knetchel, Jerry Cole, Hal Blaine, and Ry Cooder, Melcher and the band arrange harpsichord, flute, string quartet, guitar, and soft zen cymbals to create a Renaissance/Baroque/hippie soundtrack which is dazzling in its depth of production. "Our National Anthem," which was thought by everyone to be a surefire Top Ten single, fizzled out when it was released due to lack of promotion and touring. Listening to the song now you can't help but be swept up in the dreamscape-utopia visions of Stanley and Polland, and their vibrant singing, which sounds like the West Coast soft-psych nirvana...
