PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! NICE and CLEAN....Original 1968 first pressing on the old (thick platter) ROYAL SOUND DECCA label ...with clean shiny laminated cover -- the real deal!
If you like early Who, Kinks or Creation records you're gonna love this LP! Totally different from their later (and more pop oriented) Immediate recordings, this record is hard mod rock at its best, all in glorious mono. A strong outing of 7" single mixes, non-album B-sides, outtakes and works in progress - "From The Beginning" was put out a mere three weeks prior to their proper 2nd album on Immediate Records - the self-titled "Small Faces" (released 23 June 1967). Unfortunately, it seems not to be known when the outtakes were recorded but the stage favourite Baby, Don't You Do It has Jimmy Winston on lead vocals and guitar so some others may well have been recorded before October 1965, possibly the bizarre but interesting version of Runaway and the excellent Take This Hurt Off Me You've Really Got A Hold On Me. These tracks demonstrate what a fine band the Small Faces were, and what a great vocalist Steve Marriott was. Indeed one wonders why space could not be found for some of these recordings on their first album
The Small Faces split from manager Don Arden to sign with Andrew Loog Oldham's Immediate label and, in retaliation, Decca and Arden rounded up the remaining recordings the group made for the label and released them as From the Beginning. Appearing just months before their Immediate debut -- entitled The Small Faces, just like their first album for Decca -- From the Beginning includes a different early version of "My Way of Giving" and "(Tell Me) Have You Ever Seen Me," and it reprises songs that were on the 1966 Decca LP ("Sha La La La Lee," "What'cha Gonna Do About It"), moves that muddy an already confusing situation. From the Beginning opens with a burst of burgeoning psychedelia then doubles back to the group's Mod/R&B rocked-out scene -- on a track by track basis, there is a lot of wondrous material here. Like many of their peers, The Small Faces began to dabble in LSD in 1967 and their sonic horizons broadened considerably, something that is evident on "My Mind's Eye," "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow," and "That Man," swirling songs that hint at the band's developing pop inclinations without abandoning their hard R&B underpinning. Other songs -- "(Tell Me) Have You Ever Seen Me," "All or Nothing,"" "My Way of Giving"-- arrive at the midway point between the psych-pop and Mod R&B, just as the Immediate Small Faces LP would just a few weeks later, and these are nervy, energetic gems that find a nice counterpart with the pure MOD/rock songs bunched at the end. From the Beginning offers too much top-notch material to be dismissed; in fact, in many ways, it holds up quite well, enough to easily enjoy over and over...a gem from the swinging '60s
