PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. TOP MINTY VINYL and clean cover
Hard to find Original 1969 first pressing in very fragile old style UK unipak gatefold sleeve ...geberally regarded as the very first STRAWBS album issued not long after leader Dave Cousins involvement with the psychedelic group "Five Day Week Straw People" ....
Although officially often referred to as their first album, the real first recordings with Sandy Denny remained unissued until a few years after this album was released. Led by Dave Cousins, The Strawbs were definitely one of the most successful and brilliant UK Folk-Rock outfits. In various stages of their career they would explore other avenues, getting closer to Rock and Pop, but they always remained faithful to the Folk tradition, which is their core inspiration. Cousins, a remarkable singer, guitarist and songwriter, was also a hardened bandleader and his personality is the key for the band's ability to keep going onward for years. This album, which was the 1st they recorded for the UK branch of the US A&M label, is a brilliant collection of songs, all written by Cousins. The group was a trio at the time (Cousins with Tony Hooper and Ron Chesterman), includes superb arrangements and brilliant production by Tony Visconti make it an everlasting masterpiece of the genre. Overall kind of progressive/psychedelic, kinda pop-sike folk rock music . . . It's worth noting that both John Paul Jones and Nicky Hopkins appear as session musicians. Yes, it's basically a full-on folk-rock album, and the band does seem to get some outside help, like drums and keyboards. "The Man Who Called Himself Jesus", banned by the BBC is certainly one of the highlights, but there's much more to offer on this album. "That Which Once Was Mine" is am amazing cut, with some nice use of recorder (Tony Visconti playing recorder here). "Piece of 79 and 15" is their very first Mellotron cut ever, so if you think Grave New World was their very first exploration into Mellotron, you'll be really surprised to find out the Mellotron was featured on this cut on their very first album. Who could that be playing the Mellotron? Rick Wakeman? "Tell Me What You See In Me" is a real interesting and a top album highlight on exploring Persian and Indian eastern exotic styles, complete with violin and santoor (a dulcimer commonly used in Iran and in India). A few of the songs have more of a '60s feel, but it seems like the songs that were written strictly by Dave Cousins were the best (several songs were written by both him and Hooper, and some songs were sung by Hooper). Prog or not, this is album is definately worth getting because there are several great songs. Too bad the LP isn't that easy to come by.

The Vinyl: both sides are clean, M- expect to play enjoyable...no scuffs or scratches with shiny groooves and ....there is a smeared small rubber stamped "used" on one side of label.otherwise clean UK labels
