Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback.   We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! MINT CLEAN VINYLS x 2LP SET!

PRODUCED BY KIM FOWLEY ...

RARE and sought 1972 FIRST PRESSING  2xLP set in THICK gatefold cover containing not only the proper complete "Tombstone Valentine" album but also a couple tracks from their rare first "Hard & Horny" album as well as several essential tracks from 1969 era The Blues Section, the same guys before calling themselves Wigwam a year later...

Again...this IS the USA rare 1971 release contains the songs from the original Finland "Tombstone Valentine" album as well as songs from Wigwam's first release, "Hard n' Horny" (Mountain Range & Astronomical ), and some songs from the great RARE pre-Wigwam band The Blues Section (Call Me On Your Telephone / I Like You Bird Of Paradise / Wolf At The Door / The Gang Called The Vegetable Men (Answer To Life) / Anna Sukko Vain, Only Dreaming / Cherry Cup Cake / Semi-circle Solitude / End Of The Party), all, as mentoned, the precursor to Wigwam.

As for the original album, personal favourites are Tombstone Valentine, Dance of the Anthropoids (wierd electronic progressive with a bit of a beat), Frederick and Bill (despite its racial overtones) and Captain Supernatural. Frederick and Bill may remind of Zappa's work, with a good guitar/violin duel going on in the middle part of the song. Pembroke's lyrics were an afterthought! This album has Wigwam finding their way and establishing their sound. The album was the first to feature virtuoso bassist/violinist Pekka Pohjola...

Kim Fowley, composer and producer from California, apparently got so excited about Wigwam's first album, Hard And Horny, that he decided to come to Finland to produce Wigwam's second album. He had an idea, that Wigwam would be the next Beatles. Whether this was a good thing or not remains uncertain. Anyway, Tombstone Valentine is not as experimental as their first LP, but partly because of that, it's also a much more coherent and better balanced effort. The line-up had changed slightly, as this was Pekka Pohjola's (a great bassist) debut with Wigwam. Famous Tasavallan Presidentti guitarist Jukka Tolonen (who never officially joined Wigwam) also offers his hand, as guitarist Nikke Nikamo had left earlier on. On to the music then! Well, it's fairly basic early 70's pop/rock & prog/psych leanings. If looking for comparisons; Procol Harum, and Traffic spring to mind. Overall, a slightly more refined version of the first album repeating the shizophrenian music (really two personality of tracks here represented by both main writers but also contributing to each other's compsition) .

BEATLES' influences are all over the place, combined with smooth violins and jazzy guitars amid some psych atmospheres...

The album opens with the catchy title track followed by a Traffic-inspired track. The highlight is the Cream-sounding Fred & Bill while Thinker is reminiscent of Bob Seger (especially in the vocal delivery). Again , the Pembroke tracks are in the late 60's Dylan mode while Gustavson's are more Traffic-inspired. With the arrival of super-bassist Pohjola, the equilibrium between Gustvson and Pembroke is tipped in favor of Gustavson but this is not apparent quite yet.

Jukka Gustavson, vocals, organ, piano
Jim Pembroke, vocals
Pekka Pohjola, bass, violin
Ronnie Österberg, drums
