PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Original first pressing on the infamous Australian Toasted label, a product of TMOQ bygone days...
(1) There are rumours that this pressing was transfered right off Jimmy Page's cassettes.(2) Underrated intense performance from the 1973 USA tour.
(3) John Paul Jones plays with two fractured ribs. And here we go....Robert Plant is in good, if not great (considering the era) voice on this night; on the opening "Rock and Roll" he does hit a few of the high notes. Not only this, but one can always tell his better nights by how many chances, variations on lyrics/phrases and improvisations he takes, and how confidently he attempts/executes them - this is a must-hear show for Plant fans.
"Celebration Day" is excellent ... after the "winners toll the bell" line, Plant can be heard to say "gimme some monitors!" "Black Dog" starts great, but Jimmy Page loses his way for a few seconds at the first verse turnaround. On the bridge, after "ah ah" Plant: "you do me wrong!" The band's churning, rockin' hard. Listen to Plant's scream leading into Page's outro solo (Bonham double-times him near the finish). Also hear Plant's "Over The Hills" opening vocals; Page misses notes at the outset of his solo, but completely redeems himself with some valiant improvisation. Plant's loose & creative phrasing on "Misty Mountain Hop" is really effective — a slamming performance of this song and one of the better and more engaging ones of the tour. Page makes a slightly raw initial transition to "Since I've Been Loving You" but quickly becomes proficient and inspired: a passionate, soulful and dynamic version with great improvisations by Plant, Page and Jones; and the ever-solid John Bonham.
"I can feel it getting better ... Now, that's not bad for an Englishman. .... This is a track which doesn't bear a smile." Tonight's to-the-point, ~10-minute "No Quarter" starts slow & brooding; after "...no one goes" Plant lets soar a melismatic, drawn-out "No Qu-a-aa-a-rr-r-rr-t-e-ee-r-rr" ... John Paul Jones' solo starts out a bit on the dinky side, but he, Page and Bonham rapidly weave a melodic, syncopated groove. Page essays a superb jazzy solo, with nuanced wah and string bends.
Now hear Jimmy Page letting loose on "The Song Remains The Same" — and listen to Plant go! Jones & Bonham are a taut, perfectly oiled machine ... "keep on!" Glorious. "The Rain Song" is beautifully modulated tonight - although the Mellotron briefly hiccups before re-entrance to "It is the summer of my smiles ..." Plant: "oooooh-ye-yea-yeahhh" - a small tape cut right before end of the last verse. Bonham's subtle tympani ... a brief, tiny high-pitch feedback whine as Page plays his final arpeggios. Nearly perfect, and sweet enough to bring a fan to tears. "That wasn't Woody Herman, folks, it was John Paul Jones."
Page kicks off "Dazed and Confused" with some appropriately twisted wah swells and effects. Bonham and Jones lead the band's charge into a brief initial jam; Plant in "San Francisco": " ... I know, I kno-oo-o-ow-w-ow—get it now!" Things pick up after an ocean-depths bow section, with heavy (chop) funk and hot guitar jams in the main improvisation; great drums/bass/vocals as well. Superb stop/start call-&-response — listen to Jones, Bonham and Plant extend one of these, and then Page rejoins to climax the solo. "Mars" is strummed almost casually, but the whole band is at a fever pitch and ready for anything; Page's ascending runs and fanfare riffing lead into the last verse. Unusually abbreviated outro jam & finale. Though not as epic or Bonham-weighted as the next night's version, Dallas '73's "Dazed" is a classic example of Zep completely altering the musical state of consciousness, in this era of the song's live performances.
A fine-sounding "Stairway" with Plant freewheeling his vocal phrases and lyric accents: "don't it ma-a-aa-a-aa-ke you wonder... " Page plays an intriguingly structured 'funky' guitar solo. Plant's voice cracks attempting to reach a few high notes at the end; brief minor feedback right before "and she's buying ..." As the show ended, Plant advised:"We've been comin' to this country for 'bout five years ... quite a few experiences have passed our way ... and one of 'em is improvement" Rock And Roll
