Description

Here is a great rare vintage 78 by Skoodle-Dum-Doo (Seth Richard) & Sheffield.
These guys are awesome!
The songs are "Broome Street Blues" and "West Kinney Street Blues".
You can hear a sample here:  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002GPHVJA/ref=dm_sp_adp?ie=UTF8&qid=1289863258&sr=8-3-catcorr
"Seth played 12-string country blues guitar in the Piedmont and Alabama styles.
"When Skoodle-Dum-Doo & Sheffield recorded their four sides in 1943 (possibly in Newark, New Jersey), indigenous black music was about to enter one of its most significant periods of change and development.
"Skoodle-Dum-Doo appears to have been a pseudonym for Seth Richard, who recorded for Columbia under his own name in 1928, and these rough, vital, ragtime-inflected blues records could easily have been recorded at a much earlier date.
"Despite the fact that "West Kinney" is a cover of Blind Lemon Jefferson's "One Dime Blues", and that some of the guitar playing (as Paul Oliver has observed) shows Lonnie Johnson's influence, these performances recognizably belong to a tradition that flourished in the Southeastern states in the decade or more before the war." -Ray Templeton
"In 1928 on the East Coast, Seth recorded a small hit for Columbia, Skoodle Dum Doo.
"Little is known of Seth Richard nor of Sheffield who accompanied him on the guitar and harmonica.
"According to Bruce Bastin, they were originally from Florida". -Gereard Herzhaft
"Skoodle Dum Doo was in all likelihood Seth Richard... two of the four Manor/Regis sides with Sheffield have that as composer credit (S. Richard).
"My theory is that his partner was JOHN Sheffield, as he refers to himself by that name in one of his pieces on that same shared session.
"Newark, NJ was their location on recording and all four sides refer to streets/landmarks in that northern city.
"There is mention of Sheffield in Barbara Kukla's book on jazz in Newark - he was always referred to by his surname!".  -Peter B.

This is an original first pressing on Manor.  Sides 1084 and 1088.

The vinyl has numerous marks but plays great because 78s are so thick. There is low noice. Which is normal for this vintage of recording.

A reasonable starting price, considering that this has sold for 134 dollars in the same condition.

A great rare piece of blues 78 history.
