Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback.   We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING:   USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire.   All Canadian and Overseas shipping ~ eBay requires Priority shipping rates on any order $400+ ~ Also, in the best interest of all of us, safe Express shipping rates on any order totaling $500+   CANADA ~ 1 single disc LP = $8.50.   OVERSEAS (all Countries) ~ 1 single disc LP = $17.00.   Discount shipping on multiple LPs in same order.   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

TOP COPY!

RARE...1964 UNBOXED MAROON first pressing in glorious MONO and TOP minty condition...think what you will, but very seldom does is this original issue available SO clean....

1964 UK beatrocking teen scene with the Rolling Stones, Them, The Zombies, Lulu & The Luvvers, The Applejacks, Unit 2 + 4, and a host of others from the British Invasion of 1964.

ENGLANDS GREATEST HITMAKERS  was released as a charity album to benefit the Lord Taverners National Playing Fields Association, a group that was responsible for maintaining England's cricket fields. We cannot think of a more charming and quintessentially British cause than this. All album profits AND artist royalties were donated to the Lord Taverners National Playing Fields Association. Can you imagine Mick Jagger agreeeing to forgo songwriting royalties so that stuffy old men, most of them presumably wearing monocles, could sneak out after tea on Wednesday afternoons and play cricket? For as much power as the modern record labels have over their current stable of artists, their might pales in comparison to that of their 60s predecessors.

Even though there were no songwriting royalties to be had, the top tier artists brought their strong showcase material. The Rolling Stones snottily cover their own "Suprise, Surprise", a song originally given to Lulu for her magnificent "From Lulu with Love" album. Lulu herself, backed by the long-lived but not long-credited 'Luvvers', tackle "Just One Look" (their rare first album is killer beatrock). While early Lulu's raspy vocals are to the fore, one wishes that she had speeded the song up a bit, a la the Hollies version. The Applejacks, are represented by their excellent hit cover of "Baby's In Black". Kathy Kirby is here, though not at her girl group best, as is Bern Elliot sans his Fenmen.

By far the best and most interesting track here is "Nothing's Changed" by The Zombies. The otherwise quite elusive track is taken from the Bunny Lake is Missing soundtrack and is widely unavailable. This might lead you to believe that it is just a Zombies castoff (is there such a thing?) but with Paul Atkinson's dulcet guitar intro and Colin's peerless vocals becoming increasingly forceful as the rest of the band join in, this is prime early Zombies, as crystalline and fully formed as any contemporary Beatles cut you could name.

A charming album supporting a charming charity, and not sure how anyone could say no to an elusive Zombies track. We hope the money initially paid for this album in 1964 helped to build a cricket field in England.
