You are bidding on the scarce Decca presentation set of the Solti Ring. The condition of the records is outstanding. As far as I can tell, only Rheingold and the Introduction to the Ring have been played; Valkyrie, Siegried, and Gotterdammerung, appear to be in mint unplayed condition. I spot checked some of the records on my LP12/Ekos/Lyra turntable and they sounded absolutely wonderful, with just a little surface noise commensurate with having been stored in the original polythene-lined inners for over 30 years. The astonishing dynamic range, detail, warmth, and emotional impact of the recordings is perfectly preserved, and thankfully suffers from none of the peak level distortion so common in well-played records of this era..

I believe this set was issued in 1968 or 1969. It contains the four operas of the Ring cycle recorded by John Culshaw between 1958 and 1966 with the Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Georg Solti. It also includes a three-record Introduction to the Ring by Deryck Cooke. The operas are each accompanied by an illustrated booklet containing an introduction by John Culshaw, the libretto, and other background information. The booklet which accompanies the Introduction contains musical scores illustrating the 191 examples drawn from the operas discussed in the recording.

Shipping: Needless to say the set is very heavy, weighing in at around 9kg, and shipping is likely to be around £10

Gradings:

Records Das Rheingold and An Introduction To The Ring: Excellent. Sound superb despite having been previously played. Die Valkyrie,Gotterdammerung, Siegfried, Mint condition and as far as I can tell previously unplayed.

Booklets: Das Rheingold has been read but is in good condition, The Introduction is in very good condtion, and the others appear to be in Mint condition.

Sleeves: the sleeves to Das Rheingold are slightly worn and are coming unglued. One has been sellotaped back together. The others appear to be in mint condition.

Case: The leatherette cover has received a couple of marks and is coming unglued along its top edge, but fortunately the metal effect paper front cover is still in very fine condition.
