Description
This is a rare Edison Diamond Disc advertising display record. It is a normal Diamond Disc that has been painted with the portrait of a lady and stating "Hear Mabelle Wagner Shenk sing "I Love You Dear" No. 80554" which was released in 1920 both for the catalogue and for Tone Tests. The actual record used is not her recording. It comes with a modern wood stand. There is a small cut on the edge which I assume was made for the printer to center the disc or hold it in place while the paint was applied.
These painted discs are a bit of a mystery. A few exist, but they are for "Make That Trombone Laugh" (one was recently sold in the Larry Donley Collection). They were probably produced by the Edison company but by whom they were made or how they were distributed in not known.
