An early Michigan garage rock rarity from the legendary Terry Knight before his rise as producer and manager of Grand Funk Railroad.

Released in November 1965, this is one of the earliest records by Terry Knight & The Pack, issued on Flint’s tiny Lucky 11 label and produced by John Rhys. Both songs were written by Terry Knight, making this an important early document of one of Michigan’s most influential rock figures.

Long before Terry Knight helped launch Grand Funk Railroad into arena superstardom, he fronted one of Michigan’s finest regional garage bands. Early Lucky 11 singles have become increasingly sought after by collectors of Detroit and Flint garage rock, proto-punk, and regional 1960s rock.

This copy grades approximately VG.

The vinyl retains respectable gloss with typical surface wear expected from a well-loved 1965 garage rock single. It should make an excellent player copy.

The labels exhibit tape residue, writing, and paper loss.

These cosmetic flaws are consistent with decades of handling by collectors and DJs but do not diminish the historical significance of this scarce Michigan pressing.

Provenance

This record comes from the private collection of a legendary Detroit crate-digger and one-time DJ. The label shows the characteristic preservation methods found throughout this remarkable archive, including protective tape applied over vulnerable label areas and a lightly etched notation believed to indicate the year of release.

These markings are part of the record’s history and provenance rather than later attempts at restoration.
