Description: Up for your consideration is the next in a series of unique 78 RPM this one featuring Georges Pitsch and String Quartet as well as John Barbirolli / Ethel Bartlett.

Several things about this item make it unique. Firstly, the records have much of the original shine with some light/moderate marks. Based on visual inspection and past experience, I'd expect the items to play VG to VG+(excellent), closer to VG.
I intend to provide an audio grade within a few days, please hold your bids until I've provided the audio grade. Secondly, at the time of this listing, no present offerings on e-bay, and NO COPIES FOUND FOR SALE ON THE INTERNET (!) so this is your chance to own a unique item at a reasonable price. It is further described in detail below, please take the time to read before bidding. Please e-mail if questions. This item does appear to be rare.

My system for playing 78s is an old Zenith system that plays four speeds and allows me to turn a knob to allow for playing 78 RPMs. If you have a player specifically designed for playing 78 RPMs, it (they) may sound even better.

Be sure to check my other listings to save postage on multiple winning bids. Please explore the "Me" link above(next to feedback rating) to check out my store and some of the 15,000+ records / books / CD's / cassettes I have for sale as well as the LP to CD transfer service I offer.

I am using the Goldmine scale of G=Good(1), VG = Very Good(2), VG+ = Very Good Plus(excellent)(3), NM = Near Mint(4) when grading the disc(s).

Here is a summary of the record(s):

Artist: Georges Pitsch and String Quartet / John Barbirolli / Ethel Bartlett Title: Vivaldi Record: Black vinyl with much of original shine and up to some light/moderate marks. Labels: Off white with black print. One-Two stickers/stamps on each side of each label, no pen/pencil marks, some spindle marks. Trailing wax: Side 1 (131): "+" and "W". Side 2: "-". Inner sleeve: Will be included inside a 33 1/3 RPM sleeve and sandwiched between two larger 33 1/3 RPM covers when shipped. Comments: This is a truly unique item. Based on visual examination and experience, one should expect the item to play VG to VG+(excellent), probably closer to VG. Records appear slightly warped. A good addition to your 78 RPM collection. Side 1: Comments: Largo Audio grade within a few days Side 2: Comments: Allegro Audio grade within a few days Side 1: Comments: Allegro Vivace Audio grade within a few days Side 2: Comments: Three pieces Audio grade within a few days Additional criteria I use when audibly grading records for people:
  • NM(4) = absolutely nothing wrong at all (very rarely happens--I've even opened sealed records and they don't play Near Mint)
  • 3.5-3.9 = very, very light surface noise
  • 3.1-3.4 = very light surface noise, very light pops
  • VG+(3) = up to light pops and light surface noise (below this, one's enjoyment is affected, very subjective)
  • VG(2) = up to medium pops and moderate surface noise
  • G(1) = up to heavy pops and heavy surface noise

I would ship this in a 14"x14"x6" box padded with styrofoam. Weight with box is about 3 pounds 8 oz. I have successfully shipped 78s without breakage.

Shipping costs: Media Rate $3.28 (3-4 lbs.) Box $.50, Tape $.40, Peanuts $.50, delivery confirmation $.75 = $5.45.

Buyer pays shipping/handling. Standard method within U.S. is Media Rate, $5.45. This includes delivery confirmation which enables you to track shipping of your package online. Outside U.S., e-mail location to determine S/H costs prior to auction end. Insurance / other methods of shipping cost extra. Payment received within ten days of auction ending. U.S.: I accept money orders, cashiers / personal checks or Paypal. Overseas: I accept money orders in U.S. dollars or Paypal.

Thanks for stopping by and good luck with the bidding!

On Dec-16-08 at 09:27:05 PST, seller added the following information:

I did take the time to play these discs and found them to play well, better than expected. I also noted a slight wobble, but this did not affect playing for me. More specifically, I noted:

  1. side 1--Largo: Up to a very light to light surface noise with some very light to light pops (3.1)
  2. Side 2--Allegro: Up to a very, very light to very light surface noise (3.3)
  3. Side 1--Allegro Vivace: Up to a very light to light surface noise with some very light pops (3.1)
  4. Side 2--Three pieces: Up to a light / somewhat moderate surface noise (2.9)
