ULTRA RARE TURQUOISE LETTERING ON SLEEVE

ORIGINAL RED AND PLUM LABEL - 1969

Original UK stereo LP, release date 1969 on the PLUM & RED Atlantic label. This is the very rare first pressing of their first album with turquoise lettering on the sleeve. These were produced in limited numbers and were quickly replaced by the familiar sleeve with the orange lettering. Earliest and rarest pressing with the SUPERHYPE publishing credit.

Catalogue number: 588 171

Matrix Nos: 588171 A//1 and 588171 B//1 (indicates the very first pressing, as close to the master tape as you can get!)

Condition of cover/record: Very Good+ / Very Good+ (Grading as used by Record Collector)

The cover is in great condition, very clean, laminated glossy finish with bright turquoise lettering and Atlantic logo. The front cover is beautiful! Has a nice gloss with only a moderate creases in the laminate, and some to the cardboard. Same goes for the rear cover which is also very glossy - no ringwear to be seen at all. The top and bottom edges have a bit of rubbing, but nothing major. The open edge shows usage wear and the corners have a bit of wear but it is very unobtrusive. The spine is reasonably sharp with a few creases which have yellowed with age. The text on the spine is completely readable. A nice cover which shows signs of age but has been cared for - a few creases and age spots, but no writing, no rips, no tears, no stickers or residue, no ringwear, and grades VERY GOOD

The inner sleeve is the original white one and is clean.

The two PLUM labels are vivid, bright and colourful and pretty clean with only moderate spindle marks visible under a bright light and some light spindle wear. They feature the all important SUPERHYPE publishing credit. The vinyl still retains a nice glossy shine. Several light surface marks on either side can be seen at an angle under a bright light; there are many of them but there are no deep scratches or marks and the vinyl is still lusterous and shiny. The audio can be pretty crackily at some of the quiet parts but near silent at others...for example, the run ins are quite crackily but between songs it is nice and quiet and once the music gets going it's not really noticible. There are no bad clicks, pops, sticks or jumps and the album plays through beautifully with the great warmth, strength and definition that make these first pressings so sought after.

All in all a very respectable example of this very rare Rock n Roll masterpiece with the highly desirable turquose cover. A well played copy, but one that has been well looked after and grades a STRONG VERY GOOD+

I have listened to the record all the way through (and very loud!) to ensure an accurate description. It sounds great!
