Even though I was able to find just a little bit of information about Ginny Satin, it’s more than I thought I’d ever come across! Hey Lover, released in April 1964, is a cover version of a record released by Debbie Dovale on Roulette in October 1963, and that record was released a month earlier on the Ricky label. So what happened is that this tiny little Ricky label didn’t have distributorship to promote the record, so Roulette came in and bought it out. Nothing happened with the Roulette release, either. The song Hey Lover was soon picked up by Philips and they had a new artist in their roster by the name of Ginny Satin sing it. However, Philips put Hey Lover on the B side and put a really cute Lesley Gore-like teen number, Where Have All the Good Times Gone on the A side. Well, sorry to say, neither of those sides did well, either.

To complicate things even more, Ginny Satin was not the girl’s real name. She was really Diane King (made one record on the Teia label in 1964), but also recorded as Diane Castle for Decca and MGM--also in 1964! So here’s a girl of many names with no hit record to show for it who recorded some great songs in her short career.

This record for auction is obviously, in today’s market, probably her most important disk. I’m telling you, Hey Lover is a killer side, sounding like several of Mary Wells’ good N.S. songs. This girl had a terrific, versatile voice and worked it for all it was worth, being she was a Caucasian gal sounding like she was African American! If you Northern Soul buffs don’t bid on this great record, you’re in for a big disappointment. Buy it for your significant other for Christmas, and I bet you’ll get a lot of warm affection for a good, long time!

CONDITION: This white promotional record is in beautiful condition. It’s mint except for two playings. The labels are as white as the day they were made, and the wax has all its sheen. The disk looks and plays like new and is still in its original Philips factory sleeve. Super record!
