Description
RARE UK LABEL NORTHERN SOUL
I'll be auctioning off a lot of UK label singles over the next year(s), taken from my own large collection. I've decided to concentrate on collecting US releases, and only keep a few UK label records. Among them are some very collectable 45s indeed, so make sure you don't miss any. I'll be working alphabetically, to make it simpler. However, eBay are doing one of their promotion offers, so I'll use a few rarities today.
MARY LOVE
"YOU TURNED MY BITTER INTO SWEET"
b/w
"I'M IN YOUR HANDS"
(UK: King KG.1024, 1965)
Record conditon: Excellent ++
Labels condition: Sticker mark (A); Spotless (B)
Up for offers here is one of the most delicious slabs of Motownesque vinyl of all time, and very rare on UK. If I told you how much I got this for in 1981, you wouldn't believe me. Go on then - £1.25.
Was I robbed?
Both sides are utterly superb examples of Northern Soul, and originally came out on Modern. While US copies don't fetch as much as some of the other Modern output (Danny Monday or The Brilliant Korners, for example), this UK release has certainly been one of my best buys. Britain's Linda Lewis also tried her hand at "YTMBIS" in 1967 (Polydor). While it's a good cover, Mary Love's original knocks it into the ground. This is certainly one of the best double-siders money can buy, because "I'm In Your Hands" is an exquisite dancer as well.
If some idiot hadn't banged a sticker on one side, I'd be tempted to grade this one higher. I've scanned both labels to show the vandal only spoiled one side, at about 4 o'clock. As you can see, the other is totally unmarked.
The vinyl has just very, very faint "spiders web", and plays near mint. I think I dare say that you won't see a better copy of this stunning single.
Currently valued by Manship at £254, and rising.
This record has been played on both sides to verify condition. It comes in my own personalized card cover.
All wins will be sent 'signed for' delivery, so excuse the slight postage increase. Any problems, please contact me.
