RARE PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE Soundtrack LP Promotion Copy Paul Williams 1974
Up for sale is an extremely rare promotional copy of Brian de Palma's Phantom of the Paradise with original songs (and starring) Paul Williams. The film was released in 1974 and became a cult classic.
Promo records are those that were mostly sent to radio stations, usually with the words “Not For Sale” or “Promotional Copy” printed on the label. In most cases the record label on a promo copy will have a different color than the copy sold in stores. So you won't find many of them available and especially not in this condition. The album cover and sleeve have a hole punch in the upper right hand corner that I assume was one more step to keep the record from being sold in a store. There is also what appears to be a stamped or hand inscribed signature on the back of the album that may have been the distributor's mark or someone at a radio station. It is very light and in no way distracts from the overall condition of the album. There is also some minor scuffing on the top and bottom of the album cover where it may have been stored standing up.
The LP itself appears never to have been played. There are no visible scratches or any sign of wear. I only took it out of the album (wearing gloves) to take these photos. The labels read, "Promotion Copy Not for Sale." I am not a expert at grading records but this one appears to be mint or near mint.
Please review the photos for details. Let me know if you have questions or would like additional photos. The album is vintage and sold as is.
