Here is a VERY rare and interesting Michigan Psych Folk LP released in either 1970 or 1971 by the group TRANSITION. This album is a school project LP made by students in Maury Dean's Modern Music Workshop 295 Class at Monroe County Community College in Monroe, Michigan. Obviously a private pressing on the 'MC3' label. There was a 45 released by the band STRUM on the same label around the same time, but this LP is much more elusive and desirable. It was thought years ago that only one copy existed of this gem, however a few copies have surfaced over the years. Latest estimates are around 6 known copies including this one. Each copy that has surfaced appears to have a handmade cover which has a uniquely colored glittery spray paint effect. This particular copy still has the shrinkwrap intact and therefore the original glued-on information sheet to the back cover is still intact. Mystery possible college project LP with different vocalists and instrumental combos. All apparent originals except the opener, a very primitive “That’ll Be the Day” ith good thumping bass line, and “Loch Lomond” sung with a bad faux-Scottish burr but with a good rocking mandolin/trumpet/heavy bass/ drums backing.

Among the originals, Side 1 stand-outs are “Strawberry Days”, a hippie goddess folk rocker with angelic dual female vocals and a heavy electric guitar rhythm; “Right On”, a psychy folk rocker which has the sound of a teenage Bob Edmund, complete with garagy organ/drum backing; and “Go With the Game”, a rocker with a slightly funky rhythm guitar and bass line, a secondary trumpet melody and a Lee Oskar War-like harmonica solo.

Side 2 highlights include “Smile At the Sun”, with a mellow Annie Haslam style vocal and jazz-tinged electric keyboard backing (a bit reminiscent of early Steely Dan - think “Do It Again”); “KS Rebellion” a male vox folk song with odd lyrics (“Go fight your battle, Go herd your cattle”); and “the closing “Vida Blues”, a thumping bass blues jam with cool dixieland style trumpet leads and a wailing harmonica solo or two."

As far as condition is concerned, the cover grades an easy VG+ or better. No seam splits or writing, just signs of light handling wear. Shrinkwrap remains intact. Thick vinyl pressing retains high gloss and looks very nice! A few spindle marks on each label side, only minimal amount of light marks to the vinyl. I will grade the vinyl VG+ overall. It looks like this record should play VG++ to near mint based on the appearance of the vinyl, but there are a few light clicks and areas of light sizzle here and there on each side...likely from the low-quality private pressing itself and not as a result of scratches (as I can only visualize a few VERY light scratches on one side of the vinyl.) This is likely one of the best copies that has ever surfaced and comes with the bonus glued-on back cover info sheet. Please ask questions before bidding.

Grading Scale:

NM = A near perfect record in every way. Record shows no obvious signs of wear.

VG++ = Somewhere between VG+ and Near Mint.

VG+ = Record has been played, but previous owner took good care of it. Record will have light scuffs or light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. VERY little and occasional background/surface noise will be heard while the record is playing.

VG = Light to moderate Background/surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during a song's fade and intro. This background noise will not overpower the music otherwise, however. Groove wear and light scratches (deep enough to affect sound) will be noticeable. Still a nice record.

VG- = Somewhere between VG and G+.

G/G+ = Significant surface noise upon playing. Scratches and visible groove wear will be evident. Record will play through without skipping or sticking however.

Fair/Poor = I do not ever sell records at this grade, but they would be cracked, severly warped, with skips or sticks, or have obvious signs of HEAVY play. Basically it will serve better as a coaster than a record.
