RARE TEXAS GOSPEL LP: FRANCINE MORRISON In Times Like These w/ U.L. Rivers
Sword & Shield LPM-6400. Label from Arlington TX, recorded in Fort Worth. Songs: In Times Like These, I'll Fly Away, Somebody Bigger Than You and I, Deeep River, Freedom Anthem, If I Didn't Have Jesus, Just a Closer Walk With Thee, That's Enough, He's Got the Whole World, Does Jesus Care. With U.L. Rivers, piano; J.C. Carter, organ; Joy-Spreaders Chorus, vocal background. Record near mint except for faint surface streaks on one side. Jacket VG+ with slight corner damage and a one-inch split at top.
This 1965 release is so rare that it is not listed in the comprehensive Gospel Records 1943-1970 discography and the only copy on popsike was sold on eBay for $150 in 2012.
Also see my eBay auction for a 45 by the Fort Worth minister who played piano on this LP, U.L. Rivers.
LPs, 45s, and EPs are graded M (mint), NM (near mint), VG+, VG (very good), VG-, G+, G (good), G-, F (fair), and P (poor). A VG+ record may have some visible scuffs and light scratches and plays well with little surface noise. Scratches on records graded VG, VG-, and below are deep enough to feel with your fingernail, or there may be scratches throughout that cause surface noise. On records in the G+, G and G- range the level of the music is still above the surface noise caused by scuffs and scratches. Surface noise is as loud as the music on records graded F and louder than the music on P records.
Picture sleeves and EP jackets graded VG+ have only slight wear; jackets graded VG are more worn but still intact unless defects are noted. G jackets show definite damage and F and P jackets are probably falling apart. Splits, markings, cut corners, and other defects will be noted.
