RAREST Northern Soul SHRINE #100 Linda & The Vistas MINT dj
MINT and I believe it was never play.... scratches seen are on the glass of my scanner , the machine impressed X in to the left side of SHRINE, needle scratch 0100-A left of Pera Music on "Bad Apple" side... Flip side She Went Away needle scratch 0100-B right side of Eddie Singleton.... Shrine Records ...... Arguably one of the most sought after Northern / Rare Soul labels of all time, with 95% of it's catalogue being incredibly hard to locate, Shrine Records out of Washington D.C. has made an indelible mark on the scene. The label itself began life in the spring of '65, having been launched by Eddie Singleton and Raynoma Gordy, and being named as a sign of respect for the recently assasinated John F.Kennedy. The first release on the label was a '63 recording by Linda (Tate) & The Vistas, who Eddie had previously written "Believe me" for, and had already been released on Assault Records (label scan on my trades page). This track also gained Rare Soul scene attention and spins and has remained ultra rare. All Shrine discs were manufactured by "Johnson's Wax", whose "X" mark appears in the run out grooves of the discs, and x2500 copies of each disc (106>119) were manufactured. When the label folded in late '66, the tapes remained at Edgewood studios, the 45's remained at Eddie's old house, office and at the Schwartz brothers distribution warehouse. This stock was then transferred to Waxie Maxy's, which was burned down in the race riots of '67.
