Ramon Reyes,mas conocido como Rey Reyes:Cantante Quisqueyano con mucho exito en latinoamerica que comenzo su trayectoria en Santo Domingo como conguero y formo un grupo que e llamaba "Momon Y Sus Congas".despues paso a la orquesta de "Monguito Santamaria" en el año 74 y que tambien hizo sus comienzos junto a ''Kako Bastar" entre el 74 y 75 .formo su propia orquesta en el 76 "la Orquesta Refran" Lp El Clavo pero fue negociado con la empresa Latin Percussions que eran los dueños del sello disquero "Criollo Records" y que salio al mercado en el 78. Despues participo como cantante de la orquesta de "Charlie Rodriguez" la cual hizo 2 lps entre el 80 y 81.lo cual gano un disco de oro por el tema "El Divorcio". En totalidad rey Reyes ha conseguido en su larga trayectoria como cantante "4 Discos de oro, 2 De platino Y 1 Doble platino"entre los años 83 y 84 con permiso de la "Fania All Stars" El maestro Johnny Pacheco le grabo un Lp.titulado "El Rey" donde se destaco por completo toda la produccion.(este lp.yo lo busque por todas las disco tiendas en Cali en esa epoca y no lo pude conseguir,lo adquiri unos años mas tarde en una visita a New York.) Entre el 90 y 91 nos entrego una produccion llamada "Libertad",despues salio "Vampira" entre el 93 y 94.grabo una producion que se llamo "Naci Colao" la cual le cambiaron el nombre para que resaltara mas y fuera mas comercial por "I'm Back".hizo unas grabaciones conla "Orquesta Realidad"de Colombia entre el 97 y 98 la cual fue un disco de navidad donde se destaco y suena todavia"Cinco Pa Las Doce".en el 2000 hizo un trabajo de la mano del fallecido maestro "Martin Arroyo" director de la orquesta"Los Soneros Del Barrio" titulado"Salsa,Timba Y Son"de donde se destaco el tema cantado tambien por el maestro "Justo Betancourt" "Ella Esta En Otra Rumba",su ultima produccion del 2004 "Salsa,Reguetton Y Son" titulado "Momon" nombre que se les da en la "Republica Dominicana" a los Ramones,me conto que asi lo llamaban asi en su tierra.aqui incluyo a los raperos Winston"Savage" Martinez y Rejean Gomez del grupo "Los Daddys" aqui se hizo acompañar de "Luisito Quintero"en la percusion,"Chino Nuñez" en el timbal,Hector"Bomberito"Zarzuela en la trompeta y otros maestros.en Colombia grabo un tema del cantante de musica despecho "Dario Gomez"el tema "Muy De Malas”.

I take the time to input some notes regarding the LATIN PERCUSSION history...In the early 70s they produced some of the finest hard salsa records ever (they were not interested in promoting them sice they were mainly in the making of percussions instruments in New York, but if you get one of them (under their initial label name "Latin Percusion Ventures" GET THEM!

I’m sure you have heard the age-old adage that says “if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.”

It rings no truer than the story behind Latin Percussion, Inc. and its founder, Martin Cohen.

Cohen created LP with, in his own words, “a vision to provide authentic, high-quality instruments to players everywhere.” Nearly four decades later, Cohen’s vision is still a reality that’s evident in LP’s top-quality congas, bongos, timbales, and other percussion instruments.

Passion for percussion.

The LP story starts in 1956, when a young mechanical engineer and avid photographer from the Bronx visited New York’s fabled Birdland jazz club. Martin Cohen was instantly infected by the feverish beat of Cal Tjader’s hot Latin jazz. He became a regular at Monday night jam sessions led by flutist Herbie Mann with percussionist Jose Mangual. Mangual’s mastery of his instruments was a profound inspiration for Cohen, who subsequently became a student of the 1960s Latin music scene. Upon deciding he wanted his own set of bongos, Cohen’s passion put yet another old adage into play.

Necessity is the mother of invention.

The 1960s government-imposed Cuban trade embargo made the getting tough for quality Latin instruments. So Martin Cohen got going and used his engineering skills to design and construct his own bongos. After successfully negotiating the learning curve, Cohen’s business flourished. His associations with some of the most prominent percussionists in the country finally paid off in 1964. Cohen’s labor of love, Latin Percussion, Inc., became a full-time endeavor.

The commitment to quality.

LP has grown from its infancy in Martin Cohen’s garage to a 100-plus employee, international operation. Though LP is now the world’s largest producer of hand percussion instruments, Cohen’s faithfulness to his vision is still apparent in their magnificent congas.

Players and listeners alike will appreciate the outstanding tone, projection, and sonic integrity that are hallmarks of LP congas. All of those qualities are the result of impeccable materials and craftsmanship.

They start with the finest, plantation-grown wood, kiln-dried to control contraction/expansion during manufacturing. Then, skilled craftsmen assemble the drums by hand. After meticulous hand sanding, the instruments are treated to a furniture-quality finish. Extra attention is paid to the optimum bearing edge. It is expertly designed to endure the head tension and yet is smooth enough for the head to ride easily. The result is superb sound.

LP’s dedication to designing and crafting quality instruments has garnered quite a loyal lineup of players. Today, LP has over 500 endorsers. They include musicians like the late, legendary Tito Puente, Marc Quinones, Carlos “Patato” Valdez, Armand Paraza, Mick Fleetwood, Sammy Figueroa, and Peter Erskine. Other LP faithfuls include Phil Collins, Greg Bissonette, Lenny Castro, Ralph MacDonald, Bobby Allende (Marc Anthony), Carter Beauford (Dave Matthews Band), Cindy Blackman (Lenny Kravitz), J.D. Blair (Shania Twain), Edwin Bonilla (Gloria Estefan), Gaynell Colburn (Stevie Wonder), Larry Fratangelo (Aretha Franklin), and hundreds more.

A “Supernatural” collaboration.

One of LP’s longest associations is with guitar icon Carlos Santana and his percussionists. This musical partnership has produced LP’s new Accents Santana Supernatural Edition instruments. The beautiful drums are wrapped in the distinctive, festive graphics from the multi-platinum “Supernatural” album. They are designed to reproduce the sound heard on Santana’s recordings. Their tuned fiberglass shells are reinforced with steel rings embedded near the bearing edge for superior shell integrity. Other professional features include LP’s easy-on-the-hands, extended collar Comfort Curve II rims, hefty 5/16" tuning lugs, and specially-selected rawhide heads. Plus, a portion of the proceeds go to Santana’s Milagro Foundation to benefit underprivileged children.

Record Grading: Standard guidelines for grading records comes down to a subjective judgment that may vary from person to person. We grade records and LP covers visually AND (when possible) play-tested. We make every effort to give full disclosure (remember that the LP has at least 12 tracks and the grading may vary between each other)  and your satisfaction is guaranteed. Don't assume that our vinyl determination of "Very Good+" is the same as yours!

MM RECORDS: are shiny, with no visible defects. They might have some minor superficial (“Paper”) scuff but they should play without any noise. Writing, stickers or other markings cannot appear on the label, nor can any “spindle marks” from someone trying to blindly put the record on the turntable. Major factory defects also must not be present; a record and label obviously pressed off center is not Near Mint. If played, it will do so with no surface noise. (NM records don’t have to be “never played”; a record used on an excellent turntable can remain NM after many plays if the disc is properly cared for.)

NM COVERS: have no creases, ring wear or seam splits of any kind.
NM  PICTURES SLEEVES: should look as if they never housed a record. This is a great reason to remove your 45s from their picture sleeves and keep them separate. Just keeping the 45 inside the sleeve will cause damage than can reduce the grade of the sleeve.

VG++ (Excellent) RECORDS: Barely noticeable play wear and background noise. May have surface scuffs and/or superficial marks, which will be inaudible or indiscernible from the background, no scratches. Very nice, no flaws noted.
VG++ COVERS: Artwork is still as close to perfect as can be. Some impression to the cover (minor outer ring wear) but no ink wear! Some slight creases to the corners, but not wrinkled and obtrusive to the eye. The corners can show white (where the artwork pasted slick was) meaning, slight wear. No seam splits or writing on the cover or taped repairs can make this grade.

VG+ RECORDS:  may show some slight signs of wear, including light scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK. Minor signs of handling are OK, too, such as telltale marks around the center hole, but repeated playing has not misshapen the hole. There may be some very light ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable

.VG+ COVERS:  should have only minor wear. A VG+ cover might have some very minor seam wear or a split (less than one inch long) at the bottom, the most vulnerable location. Also, a VG+ cover may have some defacing, such as a cut-out marking. Covers with cut-out markings can never be considered Near Mint Unless Tiny/Small (EG: Tiny DH).

VG+ PICTURE SLEEVES: might show some very light creasing where it is obvious that a record once resided (or still does reside). A VG+ picture sleeve might have some very minor seam wear or a split (less than one inch long) at the bottom, the sleeve’s most vulnerable location.

VG RECORDS:  have more obvious flaws than their counterparts in better shape. They lack most of the original gloss found on factory-fresh records. Groove wear is evident on sight, as are light scratches deep enough to feel with a fingernail. When played, a VG record has surface noise, and some scratches  may be audible, especially in soft passages and during a song’s intro and ending. But the noise will not overpower the music otherwise. Minor writing, tape, or a sticker can detract from the label. Many collectors who have jukeboxes   will use VG records in them and not think twice. They remain a fine listening experience, just not the same as if it were in better shape.

VG COVERS and PICTURE SLEEVES:  will have many signs of human handling. Ring wear  in the middle or along the edges of the cover where the edge of a record would  reside, is obvious, though not overwhelming. Some more creases might be  visible. Seam splitting will be more obvious; it may appear on all three sides,  though it won’t be obvious upon looking. Someone might have written or stamped  a price tag on it, too.
