Description

SERGE PROKOFIEFF   -

Romeo & Juliet - Excerpts from Suites #1, #2 & #3

Leopold Stokowski/Members of NBC Symphony

RCA DCS-18

2-Track Stereo for "In-Line" heads

7 1/2 ips; 7-inch reel; notes on back of box

Please note: for proper balances on playback, all 2-track tapes must be played on a 2-track machine.   Playback on a 4-track machine will not give even weight to the channels and may not be satisfactory.

The first reference I have found to this 2-track tape comes in the July 1957 RCA Tape Catalog.  But this was the only stereo issue of this recording for over twenty years!  The original Red Seal LP issue was in mono only (on LM-2117 in 1956); but there was no stereo LP issue until the RCA issued it in stereo on ARL1-2715 in 1978 (see The Abso!ute Sound, Issue #78, Page 188 regarding this issue).

The tape is in excellent condition - in fact, the original seal still holds the tape to its reel, so this may actually be unplayed!  The box shows only minor shelf wear, a little staining.
