Description
45 rpm novelty rockabilly: THE REBEL ROUSERS - The Ballad of Archie Who (same on B-side) - Hoddy Toddy 1001 (label based in Jackson, Miss); music is credited to Johnny Cash - it is an early ’70s country tribute to football star Archie Manning (he played in the NFL, mainly as quarterback for the New Orleans Saints from 1971 to 1982), sung to the tune of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues”; the singer sounds like Cash, too; released in 1977. Notre Dame, the eventual national champions, lost to New Orleans and Archie Manning in Jackson MS (20 to 13), notching an important win for Ole Miss. Striking while the iron was very hot, this record was recorded at the most famous of all Mississippi recording studios, Malaco, and rushed out to fans hungry for a memento of the stunning victory.
Condition is VG++ (light scuffs, clean labels).
