REBIRTH/ THE CHILDREN  ATCO SD 33-271 Rare 1968 Texas Psych LP!

A highly-sought-after, collectable Psychedelic Rock album from 1968.

Cassell Webb-Vocal, Stephen Perron-Vocal, Louis Cabaza- Organ/Piano/Bass/Vibes/Tuba, William Åsh- Guitar, Andrew Szuch, Jr.- Drums. Produced By Lelan Rogers of International Artists Label fame.

The Children were a great psychedelic band from San Antonio, Texas, who released only one classic album on CINEMA in 1968 (later that year picked up by ATCO).  Starting out as STOICS back in 1966, they later evolved into MIND'S EXE, then their final incarnation with the beautiful female vocals of Cassell Webb.  Ex-Monkee DAVY JONES thought enough of them in 1968 to promote them on the LA SUNSET STRIP CLUB SCENE.

Side One:

  1. Daybreak
  2. Maypole
  3. Don't Ever Lose It
  4. Beautiful
  5. Sitting On A Flower
Side Two:
  1. I'll Be Your Sunshine
  2. Military School
  3. I Got Involved
  4. Pictorial
  5. Dreaming Slave
The only reason I know this album is that for several years in the late 60’s and early 70’s, I worked with Chicago Composer (and former Stan Kenton arranger) William Russo in his Free Theater productions for the Columbia College Center For New Music.  His first of many multimedia rock operas was called “The Civil War,” which he co-wrote with Irma Routen.

According to Russo, he staged a production in San Antonio with members of The Children as part of the ensemble. Later that year. the band put out their album. Two songs on it, “Daybreak” and “Dreaming Slave” are actually from that score.

Sleeve and vinyl are VG++. Hardly played with minimal wear. Clean and glossy with only light scuffs and marks.
