RECORD & FILM PIONEER ALFRED CLARK 1929 40th ANNIVERSARY HMV ‘SPECIAL RECORD’!
Here’s an extremely rare single-sided 12” 1929 HMV ’Special Record’ - by Alfred Clark (1873-1950), a true pioneer of the recording and film industries, later Managing Director of The Gramophone Company and first Chairman of EMI.
Titled ‘Mr. Alfred Clark’s Message To The Employees of “His Master’s Voice’, it was produced to celebrate his 40 years in the Talking Machine industry - he had started as a sixteen year old with The North American Phonograph Company, and after its collapse in 1894 moved to work for Thomas Edison on film and recording, and then worked with Emile Berliner and Eldridge Johnson, collaborating with the latter on the Clark-Johnson soundbox which featured on the ’Trade Mark’ Gramophone as shown in the celebrated ‘His Master’s Voice’ painting by Francis Barraud.
This record was never commercially issued, being given to employees of ‘His Master’s Voice'
