Description
Last year saw the FORTIETH anniversary of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, as the band formed in 1982. They released their self-titled debut album in 1984. They had two more releases before tragedy struck, and the band changed forever. 1988 was both a bad and a busy year for RHCP. Their guitarist who was with them since the beginning, (but left, then returned) Hillel Slovak, passed away, and when that happened, drummer Jack Irons also left the band (like Slovak, Irons had been there since the beginning, but left, then returned). Irons would never return to the Chili Peppers after the death of his close friend and bandmate...
The band survived the turbulent 80s, did great in the 90s, and has stayed both active AND relevant through the 2000s, the 2010s, and even now in the 2020s! A group that is so many different styles of music: rock, pop, funk, punk, alternative, metal, soft rock, thrash, and more. One of the most productive, creative, and profound bands of the last forty years!
In 1989, the Chili Peppers released a new album called 'Mother's Milk'. It features new drummer (Chad Smith, still in the band to this very day), and a new guitarist (John Frusciante, who is in the RHCP today, after leaving and coming back a couple of times). The second single from 'Mother's Milk' is a song titled "Knock Me Down", and the video features Alex Winter, (Bill, from the 'Bill & Ted' movies). Winter would actually go on to direct the video for the third single from 'Mother's Milk' called "Taste the Pain".
To promote the album and the single, the band and their label released a special, limited edition shaped picture disc! It's the shape of the classic RHCP logo, with "Knock Me Down" on the A side, and two tracks on the B side: "Punk Rock Classic" and "Pretty Little Ditty". This comes with a backing card and its clear PVC jacket.
Vinyl looks great, with only a few very light surface marks that I can see. I can't vouch for the sound quality, as I never play specialty vinyl, such as pic discs or colored records. And since it's from the 80s, the sound will likely be terrible, as pic discs from that era have lots of surface noise. This is a rare and awesome collectible, from the lineup that is still in the Chili Peppers right now! And backing card looks fantastic, as does the jacket. (Jacket has a couple of splits as a lot of them do.)
Make that Chili Peppers fan in your happy and satisfied this Christmas with a very cool collectible! Or anybody that likes 80s hard rock would more than likely love this. Collectors of rare and unique picture discs, complete with backing card, are always on the lookout for this one. Grab it before it's gone for good! Available now, and at a nice price. Order soon for Christmas delivery.
