RARE! RARE! RARE! Original International Artist DJ copy of The Red Krayola second LP, "God Bless the Red Krayola and All Who Sail With It"; IA LP-7 stereo; DJ copy white label. There are many re-issues on the market but this is an original 1968 copy from my personal collection.
Red Krayola (formerly The Red Crayola) was an avant-garde, psych/rock band from Houston, formed by art students in 1966. The band was led by singer/guitarist and visual artist Mayo Thompson, along with drummer Frederick Barthelme (brother of novelist Donald Barthelme) and Steve Cunningham. Their work prefigured punk and the no wave scene in 1980s New York City.
This was the band's second album and the first to be released with the new "Krayola" spelling. The LP consists of short, minimalist songs on electric guitar, bass and drums (interspersed with occasional a cappella harmonies and piano interludes) to achieve some surprisingly melodic results and even more surprisingly off-kilter lyrics.
The vinyl is in "EX+" condition with only minor signs of play; the jacket has obvious ringwear on the front and back (see photos) but has no seam splits, punchout holes or rips. Vinyl grading is based on the Goldmine rating system:
“SS” Still Sealed – For the collector that demands nothing but perfection.
“M” Mint - a near perfect, or unplayed record.
“NM” Near Mint - in factory fresh condition, like new.
EX+ - close to like new with only superficial signs of use that don't affect play. Will satisfy all but the most vain and demanding collector.
EX - a used, reasonable copy. Shows slight signs of wear.
VG+ - There will be obvious signs of wear and the possibility a few skuffs and/or light surface noise between tracks or during quiet passages, but still quite nice.
