RHYTHM PIGS

Rising out of the dust of El Paso, TX, in 1983, the Rhythm Pigs ground through a whole crop of shows across

the U.S. and Europe in the mid-'80s, which helped build on the regional notoriety that they had gained for being one

of the only hardcore bands from El Paso. Later, the band moved to San Francisco and turned their word-of-mouth

success into a deal with Mordam Records, who released their first two albums, Rhythm Pigs in 1985 and Choke on This in 1987

grading

RECORD NEAR MINT but (please, read above description)

SLEEVE EX but (please, see pictures and read above description)

Applying the lessons of hardcore (breakneck speed, stop-start rhythms, lefty politics) to funk-based rock,

the trio scores an equal number of hits and misses among the 13 tracks, but the strongest material still stands years later.

Punk fans won't find pure thrash here, but the energy level is high and the Rhythm Pigs' mid-'80s work

anticipates the funk-metal-hardcore crossovers that proliferated several years later,

though intellect is accentuated here rather than aggression...(AllMusic)
