Richard Temple - That Beatin’ Rhythm (Jay Boy - Boy 31)
First released in the US on Mirwood in 1966, I bought this record new back in 1970.
When I first heard this, it totally blew me away, even more so than the instrumental version - "Cigarette Ashes" by Jimmy Conwell.
However, in a moment of madness, after a few pints, I decided to “tipex” out the Title, Artist and Record Label logo on the main side, so my friends wouldn’t know what the record was called, what label it was on, or who it was by.
Very Stupid I know, but at the time, in an alcohol fuelled daze, it seemed to make a lot of sense.
Finding the record in my collection after all these years, I’ve tried to clean the label up the best I can, but the label’s still pretty poor and you can’t really read the artist name or title. (See Pics)
The record itself though, is in excellent, near-mint condition.
So, if you’re a DJ looking for a 1970 Jay Boy original that plays great, or a collector that’s not that bothered about the label condition, this is definitely the record for you. The label on the Flip Side “Could It Be” is spot on.
