Eddie RICHARDS

After All Vol 1 (hand-stamped double 12")

Repeat Germany

Cat: REPEAT 07. Rel: 26 Dec 22
Deep House

Side 1. Feel So Side 2 - Track 1. M'baby Side 2 - Track 2. Soul Is Life Side 3 - Track 1. Someday Side 3 - Track 2. A-comm Side 4 - Track 1. Jay Tripwire - So Horny For Your Horn (Eddie Richards remix) Side 4 - Track 2. Dream2

UK acid house pioneer Eddie Richards gets eight of his most important tracks reissued via the German label Repeat; this is the first of three mini-LPs to document the pioneer's works, many of which, miraculously, haven't seen the light of day in album form. As Tolstoy and Hegel noted, history itself is a fickle beast; Richards was an essential component in bringing house to London, occupying a resident position in clubs across Camden in the late 1980s (though we're sure someone else would've done the job if Richards weren't there!). That being said, these tunes are just about as pure as house music can get. 'Yrwhat' is a dry and unpolished dream of a tune, with stereo vox panning and phase-in-and-out pads showing every modern-day producer how it's really done. Stuff gets dubbier and more subterranean; 'Soul Is Life' blends a monologue on soul food and music with uplifting two-tones, while 'Dream2' closes the record off with a mood of hypnagogic stasis.
