Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 for August 29, 1986 checks lot of unique boxes.
Solid hits like "Papa Don't Preach" from Madonna, "Take My Breath Away " by Berlin, "Dancing On the Ceiling" from Lionel Ritchie, "Stuck On You" from Huey Lewis and the News and "Venus" from Bananarama. Novelties like "That Was Then This Is Now" from the Monkees twenty years after their hay day and "We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off" from Jermaine Stewart.
Most interesting however were the number of lead singers who jettisoned their groups to make it to the charts in a single week. Steve Winwood away from Traffic to top the chart with "Higher Love". Peter Cetera on leave from Chicago for "Glory of Love". Peter Gabriel continuing his post Genesis run with "Sledgehammer". And, most significantly, Steven Tyler breaking ALL the rules of the time to crossover and join Run DMC for "Walk This Way" Rockers co-existing with rappers?? Not in that World except on that song. Obviously a great and diverse selection in a single week. Includes hour one cue sheet just as icing on the cake!
