Ringo was always the odd one out in the Beatles. He couldn't play guitar like all the other members could, his singing was a bit rough and he never showed off his drumming skills to their full extent bar a few tracks. It was surprising to also have him be the first Beatle to release a solo album, one that wasn't experimental or a soundtrack. Sentimental Journey was a collection of Pop Standard covers with a lush orchestra backing. It was a shaky start and did terribly with critics, though the follow up here is a massive improvement. Recorded at the legendary Nashville Studios with an army of backing musicians, Beaucoups of Blues is another cover album, this time entirely of country music. At first you want to laugh, don't you? Ringo Starr singing Country? Don't be absurd. The thing is, it's actually really good. Like damn good. Ringo's voice fits the solemness and despair of the lyrics and the Nashville crew do a fine fine job of backing him. Ringo has dabbled in country before in The Beatles, with the cover of 'Act Naturally' and his own compositions 'Don't Pass Me By' and 'Octopus's Garden'. It's a quaint record, one to put on while you sit and relax. Ringo's own version of Nashville Skyline. Naturally Starr's vocals are still kinda shaky but his nervousness here mixes with the blue lyrics. It's oddly endearing and one of Starr's crowning moments. Beaucoups of Blues is starting to get its fair share of praise now. It flopped commercially on release and critics were equally bemused by it as they were with Sentimental Journey. Starr would only release two singles over the next two years, the spectacular 'It Don't Come Easy' and the equally bombastic 'Back Off Boogaloo' before his crowing moment, the 1973 album 'Ringo' 'Beaucoups of Blues' really isn't for everyone, but it's an incredibly relaxing affair, and one I highly recommend, if you're a country fan or not

(b)          The record is apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has two corners slightly worn (nothing significant)

-         Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 1.

-         Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging. (BARELY VISIBLE)
