'Denver'
King Kong, USA, 1974
SUPER RARE Trower unbanded bootleg issued in the US circa 1974 recorded from a live radio broadcast in Denver, Colorado. Of course its all about that guitar - thick, deep rich sustain, endless vibrato howling solos and gentle melodies. The Hendrix comparion is valid, of course, but I think Trower take the guitar into areas that Hendrix only touched briefly. This is Trower in full unrestricted flight propped up by two of the greatest, but like the Hendrix Experience, two unheralded heroes in drummer Bill Lordan and bassist/vocalist James Dewer a man who could easily have slipped into a sort of Jack Bruce Cream cameo if it wasn't for his sensational talent.
The recording quality is pretty thin yet every track forms an essential piece of the sonic tapestry with the whistful ballards sitting meaningfully amidst the rampaging over amped blues.
Rare isn't a fair description of this one. I've been collecting Trower for 35 years and this is only the second time I've seen a copy. Sadly there is no track listing but its a full concert featuring all the classic cuts from his first two albums.

Vinyl: Clean condition but a very low-grade pressing - as is common with all bootlegs from this period - with surface blemishes and the some snap, crackle and pop audible. Believe me this is in exactly the samne shape as my keeper copy and that was obtained from in the mid seventies. Grades as Vg+
Cover: Again, signs of use. Issued in a ad-hoc single cover of thick plain paper construction with a pasted on flyer. Sharp corners, a horizontal crease, faint ring wear, possible split seam on the spine but not fully formed yet and no bends. Grades as Vg+
