Description

RODRIGUEZ Cold Fact 100% ORIGINAL 1970 Sussex Stereo LP SUGARMAN Rare Classic!

Sussex SXBS 7000.

Mega-rare ORIGINAL stereo pressing of Sixto Rodriguez's class 1970 debut LP. This record has, of course, become ridiculously coveted following the reissues on Light In The Attic and the incredible Oscar-nominated film Searching For Sugarman.

So let's get down to business on this particular copy…

JACKET: VG w/ COH. Drill hole thru lower-left corner. Some water damage/curling, also at lower-left corner. Some very old sticker residue near the upper-left corner (right under the Sussex logo). A bit of mildew staining on the back (lower-right back corner, near the drill hole). Splits of about 1" at both ends of the top seam. Split/paper fraying at the top of the spine (see fifth pic). General light wear.

RECORD (Visual): VG-. Many light surface scuffs on both sides, and a handful of heavier scratches, including a particularly ugly one that covers most of the grooves of the second side's first track ("Inner City Blues").

RECORD (Play): There's a lot of noise at the beginning of the opening track, "Sugar Man," but it settles down and is slightly quieter throughout. There are also steady pops (about 20 or so) on the fourth track of side one ("This Is Not a Song, It's An Outburst: Or, The Establishment Blues"). Loud clicks and pops for the first half of the first song on side two (through the nasty gouge mentioned in the visual grading section) before settling into a more pleasant hum through the second half of the song. Outside of these detailed spots, the record actually plays between VG and VG+ throughout the other parts of the album. There's some warm surface noise and crackle in various parts, but it's a fairly enjoyable listen outside of those three parts.

About Us
Treehouse Records is the current incarnation of a series of storied record stores at the corner of 26th and Lyndale in south Minneapolis. After becoming Oar Folkjokeopus in 1972 it quickly emerged as the epicenter for the burgeoning 70s and 80s Twin Cities punk scene. Renamed Treehouse in 2001 after the Oar Folk manager took over the business, the store remains a staple of the Twin Cities underground/independent music community and the best source for used vinyl in the state.
