The Rolling Stones : Aftermath 6B/6A Very Early Red Decca
This very early mono pressing on the unboxed / grooved red Decca label plays to a very high standard with only a little static on S1 but is hardly intrusive as it very quiet. There are no clicks or pops on either side and S2 in particular is stunning with the majority grading as Near Mint if not better. The clarity and depth of the recording is so impressive and with a very impressive visual 'look' this is a record that has been very well cared for over the years.
The cover is in great condition with only minimal wear and the original inner is also in excellent shape.
This record has the third label variation where the band names are written in small letters and the song titles are on separate lines. It also has K/T S on the labels.

Visual grading
The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has an immaculate glossy sheen with no marks or fading and no scratching either. I can only locate a small number of faint sleeve removal hairlines and the run out grooves (with KT tax stamps) are also super clean. The unboxed grooved Decca labels have no marking/writing and not too much spindle wear.
Play grading
The intro on 'Mother's Little Helper' plays very clearly with only the lightest of background static. It continues in the same way with very strong audio and only one tick near the end. There is only minimal light static which is totally non-intrusive and Ex+ is an honest appraisal of the audio.
'Stupid Girl' is very similar in that there is just a minor touch of mega light static every now and then. I only mention this to be 100% 'complete' with my grading - it really is very quiet and the clarity throughout remains very impressive with no ticks, clicks or pops. Ex+
The classic 'Lady Jane' plays beautifully with very little static and the audio is very impressive when you consider the age of the album (56 years old!) and how quiet it is. Each note can be heard perfectly - the static is again so minimal and does not intrude on the quality of the listen. Another Ex+ track.
'Under My Thumb' plays with great depth and warmth and Wyman's deep bass adds so much to that sound. There is no interference and only very minimal background static. Near Mint-
'Doncha Bother Me' plays extremely well with only minor light static in some of the quieter sections. Again this is not intrusive and there is no other interference at all. I was tempted to grade as Near Mint- but I think Ex+ is fair.
The intro on 'Goin' Home' plays very clearly with barely any static and the first vocal is perfect. It continues to play in a way that suggests it has hardly been played and there are no clicks or pops across the entire 11+ minutes. A couple of light ticks maybe but the clarity is stunning it has to be said. Even during the quieter moments the playback is superb with no obvious intrusion and only minimal light static here and there. I would say this ranges between Ex+ and Near Mint but certainly more of the latter.
----------------------------------------------------------
The piano intro on 'Flight 505' plays with stunning clarity and proceeds in much the same way. There is barely any static and overall this very much deserves a Near Mint- grade.
'High And Dry' plays with superb power and depth from the first note to the last with no interference. This is Near Mint at the very least.
The classic 'Out Of Time' has just one minor static on the intro and the first verse only has a hint of mega light static. From then on it plays so well and there is no interference. Jagger's vocals here are very strong and the sonic quality here is stunning. There is no distortion on the top end and this is Near Mint version for sure.
'It's Not Easy' is superb from start to finish with only a small number of dust ticks for company. Near Mint
The acoustic intro on 'I Am Waiting' is 'as new' with no 'background' and the opening vocal has just one very brief and very quiet static sound. The first chorus is faultless and it continues to play with great quality and no intrusion. The quiet sections play with STUNNING precision and the fade out has not so much as a dust tick. S2 is playing incredibly well so far and this easily grades as Near Mint if not higher.
'Take It Or Leave It' then plays extremely well with only a handful of mega light static sounds. No clicks or pops and overall Near Mint- is about right.
The intro on 'Think' is perfect and then plays with that typical 'raw' Stones' sound and no interference. The clarity is not quite as 'clean' here but no doubt that is due to how it recorded/produced and nothing else. Remember this is a mono record being played through a stereo system. I will say Ex+ just to play it safe.
The final track 'What To Do' is of the same standard and for once there is no inner groove distortion. An Ex+ finish to a very impressive album.
In summary this very early mono pressing plays to a very high standard with only minimal static on S1 and barely any interference on S2. Arguably none! The clarity and depth of the audio on both sides is so good and in a way that is not surprising when you consider how clean the vinyl is. This is a record that has been very well cared for over the years. It is also worth pointing out that there are no clicks or pops on either side!
The Cover & Inner Sleeve
The cover is in lovely condition with very minimal shelf wear. It has maintained its original shape and structure so has always been very carefully handled down the years. The edges have no rubbing (just a couple of tiny marks on the edge) and the thin pinched spine is as close to perfect as could be and is of course 100% legible. All four corners are in great shape with barely any wear and the opening edge only has a couple of minor 'crimps'. The laminated front cover is superb with only a very small area of laminate lift next to the spine and one tiny 'nick' next to the opening edge. The back cover of course is not laminated but still remains very clean with barely any marking/fading. A very strong example overall.
The original poly-lined lined inner has just one very small side split and a little creasing. There is hardly any age related fading.
