Description
ROLLING STONES Aftermath ORIG UK DECCA GROOVED MONO 1960s BEAT
The Rolling Stones, Aftermath.
Original 1966 UK pressed Decca mono LP, LK 4786.
Earliest pressing on the unboxed red and silver label with distinctive Decca groove.
Matrix Numbers: XARL-7209-5B / XARL-7210-5A.
Mothers/Stampers: KK 1 / CK 1.
Vinyl a visual VG. A number of spider trail marks are visible around the spindle areas, but not to the point of wear or whitening. Playing surfaces still have a good gloss, although display some hairline scuff marks, and some very light hairline scratches, some of which are more immediately visible. There are no really deep or problematic scratches or gouges. The surfaces are not a network of fine marks, and the majority of the marks are to side one.
Playback has been fully tested and also grades at a fairly solid VG. There is not continuous underlying background noise or crackle. There are instances of mostly soft, occasionally soft to mid-level crackle and the occasional soft tick is heard, but this is mostly short lived and low volume and nicely drowned out by the tracks, except during some quieter patches/intros. The early mono cut is vibrant, loud and punchy and does not suffer from distortion. The LP still provides a comfortable listening experience with background noise being occasionally audible but never a major distraction, and much of the LP plays very cleanly, especially on side two.
Labels are clean and undefaced and still with an acceptable gloss.
Inner sleeve is plain poly-lined paper and in EX condition.
External sleeve has some tan staining and pen marking to rear (see photo), else is an unusually clean and crisp survivor. If the rear panel was not marked I'd be happy to give this an EX plus. The front panel is especially clean. There are just a very few tiny unbrowned pinch line creases leading in from the spine and edge areas, else the front is free of creases or laminate pinching and has a very fresh and bright appearance. There is just a fractional trace or ringwear impression, without rubbing. Beneath the marks the rear panel is also clean and white. Seams are in superb shape and spine also superb. Entry side still crisp and not feathered. Tips have the most fractional dots of rubbing and corners are still nice and square.
This sleeve variant has internal backflaps.
In summary not perfect, but a better than average issue and with an unusually clean and crisp sleeve.
