Description

Rare Rolling Stones original, 1972, first UK double cassette release of "Exile On Main Street" with orange paper label displaying the "lolling tongue" Rolling Stones Records logo. Catalogue number ZCCOC 69100. In nice condition with no marks, stains or damage and plays perfectly. In its original early 1970s Norelco case. It did originally come with a slipcase - however this is missing.

This can be identified as the first ever cassette release by the mention of "Manufactured and Distributed by Precision Tapes Ltd. ATV House, Great Cumberland Place, London W1" on the inside of the inlay, and the absence of any mention of Decca (The Stones previous record label) or of Atlantic (Their future distributor). The Stones recording obligations were in a state of flux at the time with them looking for a more lucrative deal, and they had just set up their own label "Rolling Stones Records" (as indicated by the lolling tongue logo) and their distributor was in question until Atlantic took over.

I have never seen another one of these "Exile..." first releases for sale, although two enterprising souls seem to have a copy each on Amazon for £9998 and £998 respectively, but without photos, I can not confirm these are the same, but I suspect so.

It is therefore difficult to assess a reasonable and saleable price for this rare piece, but a good indicator might be the recent sale, at £189 of The Beatles White Album "cigarette packet" first release cassette of mid 1971, or The Beatles other first release cassettes of 1968-1971 of around £95. Also known is that the first release 8 track version of "Exile..." went for £89 around 6 months ago, so I hope I have priced this rare cassette version correctly.
