The Rolling Stones, Goat's Head Soup.

A very early UK pressing on the Rolling Stones Records label: COC 59101 and including the two scarce inserts.

Matrix numbers are COC 59101 A3 and COC 59101 B1 (only one up from the very earliest known pressing which is A2/B1).

'ROLLING STONES RECORDS' is etched into the dead wax/run-out of each side.

Vinyl weight: is approx. 130g

LP is housed in the iconic unlaminated gatefold sleeve, designed by Ray Lawrence and photographed by David Bailey.

Contains the 'Goat's Head Soup' photo insert and photo/information sheet insert.

LP is housed in the original plain white paper 'Patent No. 1,125,555.' die-cut inner-sleeve.

Not mint, but an unusually clean surviving example, which is surely in better condition than most.

Vinyl shows signs of having been played, with a number of spider trail marks to side one, but strangely very few to side two. These are not excessive in number however, and the labels are bright and clean and without centre hole wear or whitening. The spider trail marks are only visible at certain angles.

Playing surfaces are a top end EX. The surfaces are bright and glossy and close inspection reveals just two or three of the lightest of paper scuff marks. Clearly a very carefully played and handled LP.

Playback exhibits just a tad of run-in and band separator dust crackle (I have made no attempt at cleaning), but no clicks, ticks, or continuous background noise.

Paper inner is unmarked and unbrowned and without tears or loss. Two or three slightly pronounced linear creases however.

Inserts both top end EX, with the Goat's Head Soup insert having just a very few minor handling half moons - other insert is closer to near mint.

Gatefold outer sleeve is graded top end VG plus, but more due to a couple of minor issues. Overall structurally nearer an EX, with clean and crisp extremities and crisp entry side. A little whitening scuffing to bottom edges and top left corner, plus top and bottom centre of rear panel. No wearing through or seam splitting however, and aside from this there are just pinpoint dots of whitening wear. The spine is still in great shape, unfaded and with just a couple of dots of whitening chipping. The front and rear panels both have a number of slight indentations around the centre areas, presumably caused by poor storage and something pressing against the sleeve. These marks have not broken through and are only visible at certain angles. The ones to the rear panel can just be made out in the photo. Other than this, there is just a minute sliver of a whitening scrape to the front panel, very minor. The photo of the inner of the gatefold is fairly self-explanatory. Generally in superb shape throughout bar a very minor patch of whitening rubbing to bottom left corner.

In summary a not quite perfect but generally very nice early and complete example of this LP.
