The Rolling Stones : Let It Bleed 1A/1A 1st Press Mono inc Poster
This is one of the most collectable Stones' albums and this is a very rare find indeed. The previous owner only played a handful of times and having fully play tested it is a genuine FINAL UPGRADE pressing for sure. It plays to a fantastic standard with no clicks or pops and the clarity and definition of the audio is sensational! It is easily the most impressive I have ever seen or heard. It is STUNNING! There is still a little vinyl 'flecking' around the spindle hole!
Most of the first pressings had a 1A/2A matrix so what makes this even more collectable is that it has the much harder to find 1A/1A matrix. It also has only a single stamper on S1 making it one of the earliest off the production line.
The cover is also in beautiful condition and in essence has no shelf wear at all. It is immaculate and has hardly ever been handled. As can be seen it still has the sticker on the front cover. The original poster is also in fantastic condition and has perhaps never been unfolded! The original mono inner is also in superb condition. The London Bach choir credit has the 'black bar' across it as they soon decided they didn't want to be associated with the album!

Visual grading
This vinyl is absolutely stunning! It has a mirror-like glossy sheen and aside from one minor imperfection it looks like new! Neither side has any scratches and there are no hairlines either. S1 is immaculate and S2 just has a couple of small faint scuff type lines but they have no affect on the perfect quality of the audio. 'Scuff' is probably too harsh a description - they really are very faint. Apart from that S2 is in fantastic condition and just by looking at the vinyl you can tell that both sides have hardly ever been played. It really does have an incredible glossy look and there are only a couple of very faint spindle traces on the S1 label and only three or four on the S2 label. There is in fact a little vinyl 'flecking' still around the spindle hole which is something you only find on records that have hardly ever been on a turntable! The labels are beautifully clean and the run out grooves (with JT tax stamp) are also in superb shape with no marking. A STUNNING record the likes of which I have never seen before and never likely to again!
Play grading
S1 has no lead in static or crackle on the lead in grooves and as we all know that is just so rare on a 50 year old record! The intro on 'Gimme Shelter' then plays 'as new' there is no decrease in quality and the clarity and depth of the audio is just phenomenal! The sound is so deep and rich and plays with amazing sonic quality and that can only be because it has hardly played down the years. There is nothing that detracts from the stunning audio and from start to finish this grades as Mint I am 100% confident in saying and even the fade out plays with incredible precision. I know audio perfection when I hear it and this is it, no need for a minus here!
The quiet acoustic intro on 'Love In Vain' also defies belief! All you can hear is the music and there is not even a dust tick! The clarity is exceptional and it continues to impress with audio of the highest calibre. The verses play perfectly and the mid instrumental section could not play any better. I play every second of every track so as to provide a 'complete' grading and there is just no intrusion on the audio. Already I am blown away the fantastic definition of the audio and this track also grades as Mint and 'as new' is no exaggeration.
'Country Honk' is another sublime example of a barely played vinyl. From start to finish it plays with infinite precision and no sign of any 'background' at all. I cannot emphasise enough just how 'perfect' the audio is. Mint again I am delighted to say. What a version!
The bass intro on 'Live With Me' plays beautifully with only mega light dust tick - it is barely audible I just had to mention it! From then on it plays with superb definition and clarity and a real sense of power. You can turn this up to loud and there is no distortion at all, just pure unadulterated Mint audio! The sax section sounds as good as it did when first pressed back in '69 and the remainder is without fault including the fade out. This is another Mint track you won't be surprised to hear.
'Let It Bleed' has a mega clean intro with only a couple of insignificant dust ticks and then proceeds to play with wonderful separation i.e. you can hear each note perfectly, there is no 'muddiness' to the sound. There is barely any inner groove distortion which is so rare for this final track when you consider it is a mono record being played through a stereo system. This again shows that this record has hardly ever been on a turntable. It plays with immense power and depth with only one very faint tick near the end. Blink and you miss it! I will grade as Mint- as it is easily the strongest version I have heard on a first press mono.

'Midnight Rambler' on S2 has a stunning intro with only a couple of minor dust ticks. The sound is so deep here, the bass is so strong, and again this demonstrates that the audio has lost none of its original over the intervening years. It continues to play with sublime power and definition and...with no clicks or pops. The instrumental section can only be described as awesome! The very quiet section that follows has only a couple of mega light dust ticks and aside from a very gentle hiss there is no obvious 'background' at all. For 50 years of age this section plays beautifully! As the track builds you are again shaking your head in disbelief at the quality of the audio! The 'high octane' end section plays with perfect precision aside from one faint static tick right at the end. This is Mint- I am happy to say.
The intro on 'You Got The Silver' is so 'clean' with only a couple of dust ticks and a very quiet hiss once per revolution of the record. It is so quiet and totally non intrusive and again I only mention it so as to provide a comprehensive grading. Thereafter it plays with stunning precision and it's difficult to describe each track in an original way now! Suffice to say there are no clicks or pops and the remainder is 'as new'. As the volume build the audio is just out of this world! I will grade this as Near Mint just to be on the safe side!
The intro on 'Monkey Man' plays with stunning clarity and continues in exactly the same way. There is no interference and from start to finish it plays with great power and depth and no distortion either. The instrumental section could not be any better and the fade out is again so 'clean'. Mint again.
The choral intro on 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' has only handful of mega quiet dust ticks which is what you will find on a new vinyl let alone one of this age! It is a Mint start without doubt and the clarity as the acoustic guitar comes in could not be any clearer. The first verse is flawless and the audio continues to impress as the volume builds. This is the most impressive version I have ever heard on any pressing and this is a 1A/1A mono first press! There is just no interference and remarkably there is no inner groove distortion either. It plays with breathtaking quality throughout and there are quite simply no negatives. The crescendo ending is so powerful and again I can't quite believe the level of clarity here. This is a sensational Mint version I have no hesitation in saying and the fade out also plays with sublime precision...again. What a version!
In summary this FINAL UPGRADE first pressing plays to a standard that I have never heard before. Not only is the vinyl pristine but the audio more than matches its visual 'look'. The clarity, depth and sonic quality is phenomenal and you could not wish to find a more 'complete' version. Between each track there is complete silence in the dead wax also and as my audio grading explains there is not one single click or pop and incredibly no static or crackle either. This is as good as it gets basically! As hopefully the photos show the cover is in fantastic condition - it looks almost 'as new'! The poster and mono inner are also in superb shape. A FINAL UPGRADE version for certain, in other words you won't need another to get another one, a stunning 'package'!
The Cover
The laminated 'Upton' cover is easily the best I have ever seen. It is so beautifully clean and has no obvious shelf wear at all. The edges and spine are perfect and there is no real corner wear either, just a very minor amount on the bottom right corner. The opening edge is also in immaculate condition with no handling wear. The front cover is as 'clean' as it was when first produced 50 years ago with no laminate creasing or splits and the 'Full Color Rolling Stones Poster Included' sticker is still firmly attached. The back cover is also in superb condition with only one small tiny mark near the top edge and the mono/stereo indicator hole is undamaged.
This cover has been so well preserved down the years and it is just blindingly obvious that it has hardly ever been handled. It remains straight and true with no bends etc and whilst I hardly ever say this, you could not find better! It really is in beautiful condition remains very strong and robust. Near Mint is well deserved and it's not far off Mint- if I'm honest!
The Poster
The original poster is in wonderful condition with no markings and no tears. No doubt it has hardly ever been removed from the cover! For these first pressings the majority were made on glossy paper but there were exceptions and this one is made with thin paper.
Inner Sleeve
The 'Let It Bleed' mono inner is in great shape with no side splits or tears and has only a little creasing. Interestingly the London Bach Choir credit is 'blacked' off which I didn't know occurred with these first mono pressings.
The Labels
They are practically as good 'as new'! They still have their deep red colour and there is no marking or writing. There is just a couple of faint spindle traces on the S1 label and three or four on the S2 label. Stunning examples!
