THE ROLLING STONES - Let It Bleed ORIG Decca MONO LP / LK 5025 (UK, 1969)
Happy to present the seminal MONO Let It Bleed in its COMPLETE original UK release with the red unboxed Decca labels, red paper print inner, band poster and stickered sleeve with mono/stereo peephole on the rear.
The front laminated sleeve stickered sleeve is in very sharp EX- condition showing only 2 discernible ‘thumb’ creases (light not heavy) and a very faint ring impression either side. There’s mild corner wear and a little corner crease to the top left. The rear on this sleeve is so often found grubby and yellowed, but this rear shows hardly any handling marks and only a few ultra light, tiny creases from the bottom edge. The tapered spine fully intact with no splits, just one small crease halfway down. Other than these minor imperfections, there is NO edge wear, no seam splits, no writing, no foxing, no heavy creasing and no fading of the colour. Really this should be given a full EX, but I am picky. The all important sticker is perfect - no picking, flaking, wrinkling or tears - edges still very sharp and intact.
The custom red paper inner is relatively uncreased in comparison to some you’ve seen. Only light handling. There is a split to the top left corner, but no other side splits. Bear in mind a tiny circle with initials in it written on the top border (see photo). Overall better than most at VG+.
The poster has evidently been hung at some stage as it shows some browning and discolouration probably brought about by sunlight exposure. It’s not split, but there are two tiny holes towards the top of the ‘stones’ writing and two small grazes at the bottom which have caused small holes. Bear in mind also some wear to the top edge and some additional creases to the original fold lines. Evidently not mint, but all in one piece and AN ORIGINAL POSTER. So many copies you see are suspiciously ‘brand new’ (think about it - it’s the easiest part of this complete package to replicate!!).
The deep crimson unboxed labels do show quite a bit of spindle traces, showing that the vinyl has been played. The medium heavy vinyl has the 1A / 2A matrix endings and shows several small surface scratches and quite a few hairlines, with a number of scuffs. In spite of this, the vinyl still maintains shine and is not battered, it’s not cosmetically perfect, but it’s not ugly. Visually looks VG- tho’ I know many would try to milk a top VG even a near EX!
Playback is very satisfactory, though not perfect. When I say not perfect, I mean if you’re looking for near CD silence, then buy the CD. This record is 40 years old this year! There is some hiss right at the beginning of Gimme Shelter which lasts around 30 secs on successive revolutions just until after the drums come in. There’s the odd light tick here and there, and generally when the music is not loud enough, you’ll hear some light surface crackle, though this is usually under and not over the music. It’s still very much an enjoyable listen throughout, and generally plays without distortion or lack of clarity.
So there you have it. Original ‘69 Stones in complete glorious MONO. Great stickered sleeve, above average inner, original poster (loved but kept!) and solid if not spectacular vinyl. Low start no reserve.
