Finding a complete UK pressing of Let it Bleed that has a gleaming vinyl, that has Top clear Audio, a cover and poster not torn or highly worn is now almost impossible. To find a 1st MONO Un boxed pressing with a great cover and TOP perfect audio makes this an extreme rarity and great collectable.
Let It Bleed is the eighth British album by The Rolling Stones, released in December 1969 on Decca Records in the United Kingdom and London Records in the United States. Released shortly after the band's 1969 American Tour, it is the follow-up to 1968's Beggars Banquet and the last album by the band to feature Brian Jones as well as the first to feature Mick Taylor.
Released in December, Let It Bleed reached #1 in the UK (temporarily knocking The Beatles' Abbey Road out of the top slot) and #3 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart in the US, where it eventually went 2x platinum.
Although they had begun the recording of "You Can't Always Get What You Want" in May 1968, before Beggars Banquet had been released, recording for Let It Bleed began in earnest in February 1969 and would continue sporadically until October. Brian Jones performs on only two tracks, playing the autoharp on "You Got the Silver", and percussion on "Midnight Rambler". His replacement, Mick Taylor, plays guitar on two tracks, "Country Honk" and "Live With Me". Keith Richards, who had already shared vocal duties with Mick Jagger on "Connection", "Something Happened to Me Yesterday" and "Salt of the Earth", sang his first solo lead vocal on a Rolling Stones recording with "You Got the Silver".
The cover displays a surreal sculpture designed by Robert Brownjohn. The image consists of the Let It Bleed record being played by the tone-arm of an antique phonograph, and a record-changer spindle supporting several items stacked on a plate in place of a stack of records: a tape canister labelled Stones - Let It Bleed, a clock face, a pizza, a tyre and a cake with elaborate icing topped by figurines representing the band. The cake parts of the construction were prepared by then-unknown cookery writer Delia Smith. The reverse of the LP sleeve shows the same "record-stack" assemblage in a state of disarray. The artwork was inspired by the working title of the album, Automatic Changer.
Let It Bleed is the second of the Stones' run of four studio LPs that are generally regarded as among their greatest achievements artistically, the other three albums being Beggars Banquet (1968), Sticky Fingers (1971) and Exile on Main Street (1972).
ALBUM PLAYED FOR AUDIO GRADING:
MONO 1st pressings of the classic Stones Masterpiece 'Let It Bleed' are very rare. Although these 1st pressings were extremely well made, they were pressed in very small numbers, and usually did not last through mistreatment. The music is very wide ranging in terms of variety and sonic sound levels, and it was also an extremely popular album played to death on basic equipment, with stylus's that would damage the grooves each time the records were played.
This is a beautifully preserved piece, and I am delighted to say that the audio is just amazing, showing no wear are lessening the the sharpness of the sound. This vinyl has been in correct careful storage for a very long time and I was truly amazed by how fantastically well this record plays. Outstanding bright punchy sound, every minute and track has been tested and I could find no obvious sound blemishes. Some light occasional static, but any static is light and very occasional. Wonderful TOP audio, there is NO distortion, (certainly) NO sticks or jumps what so ever, and minimal sound between the tracks, this is an absolutely sensational piece, with audio clarity that I just couldn't believe. I will give a detailed account of the fantastic piece of musical history.
'Gimme Shelter' bursts in with great clear sound, following very quiet run ins. This first track plays with a wonderful bassy sound that is also bright, sharp and clear. I am absolutely amazed by the way this opening track sounds, it plays with an absolute minimum of occasional light background surface static, and no pops, clicks or distortion. This really is top audio. The ultra quiet 'Love in Vain' plays beautifully, with incredible clear sound. So quite, and virtually no noticeable static at all. Incredible, perfect sound separation, and still no pops, clicks or distortion. Again, a beautiful clear quite intro to 'Country Tonk', and again virtually no static, only the most minimal and the kind of surface sound that is found on all vinyls, even brand new unplayed pieces. Superb, not a hint of distortion, and I may as well state it now that there is not even the slightest hint of distortion anywhere on this record, guaranteed, and that is very rare in itself.
There is a bit of very light static in the gap between tracks 2 and 3, and thats about as far as it goes on this great vinyl. 'Live with Me' bursts in with crystal clear sound, incredible. I am so shocked by the clear this record is that I was straining to pick up any surface sound at all, even when played at low and high volume. 'Let It Bleed' also plays beautifully, with incredibly clear audio, still no pops or clicks at all, rounding off this amazing first side with another incredible audio performance.
Side 2. begins again with very quiet run ins. 'Midnight Rambler' starts its slow drawl with very bright sound. There is some light occasional background static only, but it really is virtually inaudible. The long quiet slowed down section in the middle of the track plays perfectly. Still no loud poops or clicks, I did hear two light tics towards the end of the track (not in the quiet section) but they were very light and I am sure most people would not even define them as a tic. The delicate 'Got the Silver' just plays perfectly, with some very occasional and very light background static only. Still no pops or clicks. Near silence between the tracks and then the great 'Monkey Man' with that ultra quiet echoey intro, plays perfect again! Shockingly good. Just great clear sound, great separation, and no noticeable static. Even Jagger's faint barking at the very end of the track that is normally lost, even on some c.d. versions, is crystal clear, and it's certainly normally obscured by light surface static. The Bach Choir, whose credit was removed from all but the very earliest inner sleeves begins 'You Cant Always Get What You Want', with a beautiful clear intro, every note is crystal clear. The start of this track is always a problem on let It Bleed, its long and quiet and sparse, and that always gives rise to lots of surface noise on vinyl, but again, not on this incredible 1st press. As the 1st verse begins there are three ultra light pops as Jagger is singing, but they are hardly noticeable in my opinion, and I am a bit obsessed with hearing such blips on vinyl. The track just plays beautifully, rounding off what can only be described as a truly amazing audio performance . This is a really superb pressing of this ultra rare record, that is absolutely incredibly hard to find with clear audio, let alone audio at this standard. Superb.
With absolutely no loud clicks or pops, and not a hint of distortion or light buzzing or blurring anywhere. Just great clear sound with hardly any audible static. Brilliant clear sound, the music jumps out with definition and clarity, particularly on the percussion and vocals which come through with tremendous power.
This great record plays up to the visual grading and way beyond. Strong, undistorted sound free of any repetitive noises. Super strong sound with virtually no noticeable distractions, the album plays right through with absolutely NO repeating unwanted noises what so ever. Just beautiful incredibly clear audio.
A great all round example of this classic vinyl. This is a great Audio pleasure and I would have to give the Audio at least an EXCELLENT to NEAR MINT grading.
A great all round example of this great vinyl, with amazing MONO audio throughout!
THE RECORD - VISUAL GRADING -
A lovely piece of HEAVY glossy vinyl. Deep clear grooves that can only be found on the original early pressings, this vinyl has been little played. The record has great shine, with NO scratches, just a couple of very light very short non sounding hairlines and some light handling marks. There are a few very faint handling marks, this vinyl has been played carefully and shows no groove wear. Unbelievable to think this vinyl is over 40 years old! Easily (and strictly) grades at EXCELLENT.
VINYL TESTED FOR ANY SIGNS OF WARPING:
Yes, NONE visible what so ever when tested be sight and on a moving turntable.
LABELS -
Splendid deeply coloured attractive examples. No wear around the hole areas, with all ink uneroded and fully intact, just some light spindle traces to be found. This still fits very tightly around the record spindle. Grades at EXCELLENT TO EXCELLENT PLUS.
COVER - EXCELLENT PLUS
Comes with original UK sleeve, in EXCELLENT PLUS condition.
This is a great complete example of the brilliant LET IT BLEED cover. Laminated on the front only, and with the 1st press MONO / STEREO hole detector on the unlaminated rear, these original 1st press covers are very hard to find in decent condition. These covers rarely fared well, usually having heavy ring wear and tears, with a lot of yellowing to the background. Not this one! It has no tears or splits, again very hard to find.
It has absolutely minimal rubbing to the corners, and none to the spine, which is square and true, with all the text complete in tact an defined pinched ends. Unbelievable and impossibly rare like this, the spine ends are clearly pinched, only found on the early manufactured covers!
The rear cover has virtually no discolouration and no fading or laminate stain marks near the spine (clearly shown in the images) This is unbelievably rare as these covers always have a dirty line down the edge of the spine where the laminate has shrunk. It also has NO ring wear, stains, writing, tears or sticker marks, just some light creasing on the front cover and some faint handling marks.
A wonderful original first press example and extremely rare in this condition, easily grades at EXCELLENT PLUS.
THE INNER
An extreme rarity, this press comes with Original UK "Patent" DECCA MONO inner, MADE IN ENGLAND RED and very thin paper Inner sleeve, in EXCELLENT CONDITION. Not the corrected version where the Bach Choir name was deleted. Not poly lined (as these originals never had a lining) and with the full lyrics on one side, these thin inners were usually ripped, stained and discarded. Not this one! No tears, splits or stains. An incredible example, with a tiny 8 split on one side, hardly even visible. Absolutely stunning.
The vinyl will of course come in a replacement plain white inner to protect the original.
POSTER INSERT - NEAR MINT
The Record comes with the Original press insert poster in NEAR MINT condition. This is the correct 1st ever MONO press poster made from slightly heavier paper of the two poster varieties that Let It Bleed came with. Unbelievably it comes with No rips, tears, pin holes or blue tac marks. NO light creasing and NO light wear along the centre folds only. I am wondering if it should actually have a MINT grading, as there is really nothing detracting about it all.
This is the original poster for the 1st MONO press with the picture of The Stones and the 'Poster designed by Victor Kahn', text, only found on 1st pressings posters.
CLASSIC UK R&B / ROCK album by THE ROLLING STONES
RARITY
It is getting harder and harder to find good examples of early UK pressings of Let It Bleed, and very hard if not almost impossible examples that are complete and intact with all the Original parts.
The cover is almost impossible to find without serious wear, even modestly worn examples are scarce! 1st pressings in great condition are impossibly rare and this is a great all round complete example. A great all round piece with TOP AUDIO throughout! A great original and ultra rare inner sleeve, and a great original poster. Superb!!
GREAT COVERS WITH NO SEAM SPLITS, NO TEARS, NO WRITING, NO STICKERS.
GREAT VINYLS WITH NO LOUD CLICKS OR POPS, NO JUMPS OR REPEATS - GUARANTEED!
SCRUPULOUS EXAMINATION and TESTING; PLEASE NOTE:
This record has been play tested to ensure the sound quality and accuracy of description. I aim to give a precise and concise description of the sound quality, pointing out any defects so that you know what you are bidding on. I will not go into screeds of information about nature of the songs, as I imagine that you already know them well. I aim to describe all items as accurately as possible, and offer a full refund on return if for any reason you are not completely happy with the item description.
VINYL SOUND - PLEASE NOTE:
Top quality vinyl with clear sound is rare, and is what I always aim for. Even with the cleanest copies you will find occasional static sound during playback, caused by a build of dust in the grooves. This is clearly different from the distortion, loud pops or clicks that are found on heavily played and worn pieces of vinyl. Any static build up will reduce when played, and I advise a light clean should be given between plays for optimal performance.
