Description

                                 Rolling Stones

Love You Live 1977, COC 89101 2LP set. UK

White label very first pressings in archive condition

A complete 2 record set of un-released white label advance pressings of the Rolling Stones album "Love You Live" which was issued 8th October 1977. They have been test played by me and have never been played before hence their absolutely fantastic "as just pressed" condition.

The original album was released on Rolling Stones Records who had a distribution deal in UK with Atlantic / Warners and this was the last album under that deal at the time, shortly after the Stones signed a new record deal with EMI for UK but remained with Atlantic / Warners in US.

These advance pressings were given to a friend of mine who, at the time was on the Atlantic Records roster and was presented on a regular basis advance pressings on his visits to the Atlantic Records offices in London, most have disappeared but these were passed on to me some years ago and these unique records have been kept in studio conditions since that time, un-opened and untouched. Never been sold on!

The material for these records was taken from the Stones' 1975 "Tour of the Americas", 1976 "Tour of Europe" and one side (3) live material from "The Mugambo" Toronto in 1977. This would be the third official Stones live album.

The Records: The records themselves have plain white labels on all four sides with no information on them at all, no writing, marking of any kind, no spindle wear etc. The only information is etched into the run out grooves of the immaculate vinyl which has a beautiful as new sheen without any marks, scratches or even light marking of any kind. They look as good as the day they came hot off the presses!

Each disc has the following information: ROLLING STONES COC 89101 A1  ST RS 773937

ROLLING STONES COC 89101 B1  ST RS 773938

ROLLING STONES COC 89101 C1  ST RS 773939

ROLLING STONES COC 89101 D1  ST RS 773940

On each disc there is a tiny stamp of "STERLING" which refers to the STERLING SOUND studio in New York where the records were mastered. The discs have been pressed in the UK. The plain white poly-lined inner sleeves have "Made in Great Britain"  These matrices are obviously the very first as the album had not yet gone into production.

The discs are housed in plain white card outer sleeves with COC 89101 A/B and C/D written in biro by an unknown hand in the top right-hand corner, that's it, not even the artists name as these pressings weren't meant to stray outside Atlantic / Warners staff.

The condition of course and the fact these pressings were the first from the studio masters means the audio is top notch and as far as I know only I have played them. You see the words "first pressing" bandied about on listings so often now and it is obvious some people do not understand what it actually means. The actual first pressings are the ones that come from the original master stampers that eventually wear out and are replaced by the second or third or maybe more if the records sell well and need constant re-stocking due to demand. The standard released album is not hard to come by as it sold millions world wide but very first advance pressings before the album went into production are indeed a rarity and to have both discs in separate sleeves together is again very rare.
