Another from my personal collection of over 50,000 UK albums that I have accumulated  over a period of more than 45 years!  This original 46 years old Rolling Stones album is one of the most difficult to find in mono that is in decent condition. The mono variation being the most sought after and most collectable for its awesome audio quality! This copy has to be the earliest that I have seen featureing the earliest -1A -3A Matrix endings and unbelievably early "1" "A" and "1" "G" Mother stampers. Impossible to find this early. The vinyl has only had very minimal play in my opinion and the audio is very clear and vibrant through out with no signs of distortion what so ever. The only interference that I can comment that I heard was at the beginning of the 2nd side and the intro to the first track on side two where I heard some static type ticks where a needle has probably been dropped at this point that's all. (Hear for your self in the player below) The original Hexagonal 1st issue Garrod & Lofthouse cover is a beauty Very Near Mint in my opinion with no tears or creases. This is complete with the original Hexagonal red and white Mono Decca record sleeve!
Just try to find a copy as early as this, very collectable and sought after like this!

Through the Past, Darkly (Big Hits Vol. 2) is The Rolling Stones' second official compilation album, released in 1969 shortly following Brian Jones's departure from the group and subsequent death.





 The album was released by Decca Records in the UK and London Records/ABKCO Records in the US.





In September, Through the Past, Darkly (Big Hits Vol. 2), dedicated to Jones, appeared with an octagonal-shaped album cover. Because their first "Big Hits" compilation had been released in separate formats, with the Aftermath-era material appearing only on its UK edition, the American edition of "Big Hits Vol. 2" included hit singles from the "Aftermath" period.




This UK variation has different track listing to the US version of this album!





The British track listing included the more obscure "You Better Move On", from The Rolling Stones' self-titled 1964 debut EP and "Sittin' on a Fence", an Aftermath outtake originally released in 1967 on the US-compiled Flowers album. In addition to those songs, many tracks, notably single-only releases, were collected for the first time on a UK Rolling Stones album: "Let's Spend the Night Together", "Ruby Tuesday", "We Love You", "Dandelion", and "Honky Tonk Women".





Both versions of Through the Past, Darkly (Big Hits Vol. 2) proved to be popular releases, reaching #2 in the UK and US with enduring sales.





The name of the album is a play on a line from the KJV translation of I Corinthians 13: "For now we see through a glass, darkly, but then face to face...", but it is more likely the Stones intended a homage to Ingmar Bergman and his 1961 film Through a Glass Darkly.





In the inside flap of the album, there is a anonymous poem chosen by Jones, which reads: "When this you see, remember me, and bear me in your mind. Let all the world say what they may, speak of me as you find."




In August 2002 the US edition of Through the Past, Darkly (Big Hits Vol. 2) was reissued in a new remastered CD and SACD digipak by ABKCO Records.




The British version was again made available to the public as part of a limited edition vinyl box set, titled "The Rolling Stones 1964–1969", in November 2010. It was also re-released digitally at the same time.




It was released once more in 2011 by Universal Music Enterprises in a Japanese only SHM-SACD version.

The Vinyl
This vinyl is the original thicker and heavier type for robust than later reissues with deeper grooves. The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable. This is free of any warping. On initial inspection of the playing surface looks superb in my personal opinion and lays perfectly flat on the turntable. Even in strong light I find it hard to even see a blemish on the playing surface very very rare after 47 years, only on very close inspection I can see to odd very small surface mark/scratch only Any other marks that could possibly be seen would be sleeve removal only, Importantly  nothing that would cause any loud annoying constant clicks or pops during the audio!

 The Audio Quality
I have played this vinyl two times prior to listing, at very loud volume on a top system, importantly using a dedicated mono cartridge.,  This vinyl plays through crystal clear and very vibrant without any signs of distortion at all! The audio is absolutely beautiful, crystal clear and very vibrant with that deep bassey feel , only found like this on these earliest originals! I heard (no) constant loud clicks or pops and amazingly no real surface or background static during the audio and importantly no distortion or signs that this has been overplayed at all! Please note, I heard some static type ticks at the beginning and intro to the first track on side two to mention probably cause by the needle been dropped at this point at the beginning of the record but nothing too bad that spoilt the overall enjoyment of the record in my opinion.  There are Certainly no skips or jumps! Even in between tracks this is lovely, quiet,, unbelievable to find like this after 46 years! I would grade the audio at least excellent plus to very very near mint for the most part! (light interference at the intro to 2nd side)

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! I have given my honest opinion when describing the audio quality of this album and those who know the listings and vinyls that i sell my prime interest is the audio quality! Please allow for the odd isolated static/ticks/light clicks as mentioned above but nothing consistent  through out the audio! This is a genuine (not) reissue vinyl that is 46 years old and would have been played on a system that is 46 years old! You can hear the complete recording of this album in the player above!

Please note, this album has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 50 years or more. A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static\ crackle. A constant clean before each play is recommended. This will reduce any static and will enhance the audio quality. Points to note, I notice debrit on the playing surface after play so this will need cleaning before each play which will further enhance this audio quality.
 
 
The Labels
This is the original Un-boxed DECCA labels! I really find it hard to see any spider marks even when angled to the light! Just minimal and light rubbing/scuffing wear to mention around the spindle hole. There is no spindle wear the hole is perfectly round. This features the J.T. tax code at 12 oclock to the matrix very rare to find this early   ''MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN''.! (UK PRESS ONLY)
 
 

The Record Sleeve
This is the original red and white Decca , poly lined Hexagonal record sleeve. Becoming fragile at the edges light creasing/staining/scuffing  with age only.  Nice and bright condition.  Please note, THIS IS THE ORIGINAL! The vinyl is always stored separately from the vinyl for protection. This is how I always store my records.
 
The Cover
The original   1st Issue, 1st UK PRESS  laminated Garrod & Lofthouse internal  flipback Hezagonal Custom cover. This cover in  nature is very flimsy and is very difficult to find in good condition especially after 46 years. There are no real main creases to mention on the front or rear. There are no splits or tears the cover is strong and straight and the laminate has a nice glossy sheen as it did when new. All text is readable. There is slight laminate lift on the front at the spine to mention only. Amazing to see this cover without ring wear rubbing.  The spine is lovely generally square no flattening and all text is readable! One of the best looking covers that I have seen of this album!   I would grade this cover at excellent plus to near as mint in my opinion!
