Description

THE ROLLING STONES ''THROUGH THE PAST DARKLY'' (Big Hits Vol. 2) UK PRESSING CAT NO. SKL 5019 (STEREO)  ORIGINAL BOXED DECCA LABELS  AWESOME ORIGINAL AQND STUNNING  GARROD & LOFTHOUSE HEXAGINAL COVER!!! THE VINYLS PLAYING SURFACE IS VERY NEAR PRISTINE! IN MY OPINION LOOKS  UNPLAYED! (NO) VISABLE SIGNS THAT THIS HAS EVER BEEN PLAYED! MEGA COLLECTABLE AND SOUGHT AFTER LIKE THIS!!!  !'1''W' and '2'W' MATRIX ENDINGS! (VERY EARLY FOR THIS ISSUE)!!ABSOLUTELY STUNNING MINT AUDIO! ON ALL FREQUENCIES!

A NEAR ARCHIVE COPY!

Mega rare J.T. tax code stamped on the run off grooves on bothe sides!!!!

Another from my personal collection! This is very rare to find in this absolutely awesome condition! The original hexaginal cover printed by Garrod & Lofthouse is oner of the best that you will see and normally seen creased and scuffed (not this one) The boxed Decca labels show no spidering together with the playing surface indicates that this album has barely ever been played if ever at all! Please note! There is only a very light finger print stain on the label on side 1. The photos that I have taken have seemed to enhance this, to be honest I never noticed this befor and in normal circumstanes is barely noticable unless angled to the light and scrutinised! The audio is truly stunning and plays through near perfect (as new) on my systems! Please do not under estemate the rarety of this awesome sounding\looking album, becoming highly sought after and truly collectable indeed!

Through The Past, Darkly (Big Hits Vol. 2) is The Rolling Stones' second official compilation album, released in 1969 shortly following Brian Jones's departure from the group and subsequent death. The name of the album is a play on a line from the KJV translation of I Corinthians 13: "For now we see through a glass, darkly, but then face to face: . . .", but it is more likely the Stones intended an homage to Ingmar Bergman and his 1961 film Through a Glas Darkly!!!.

In September, Through The Past, Darkly (Big Hits Vol. 2) - dedicated to Jones - appeared with a limited edition octagonal-shaped album cover. Because their first compilation had been released in separate UK and US formats (with the Aftermath-era material appearing only on the UK edition), the American edition included hit singles from that period!!.

The UK tracklist included the more obscure "You Better Move On", from The Rolling Stones' self-titled 1964 debut EP and "Sittin' On A Fence", an Aftermath outtake originally released in 1967 on the US-compiled Flowers album. In addition to those songs, many tracks, notably single-only releases, were collected for the first time on a UK Rolling Stones album: "Let's Spend the Night Together", "Ruby Tuesday", "We Love You", "Dandelion" and "Honky Tonk Women"!!!

    • Originally released on the 1964 EP The Rolling Stones
  6. "We Love You" – 4:22

The Vinyl

On visual inspection this is of the original heavier and thicker vinyl and more robust than later pressings. The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable. This  looks SUPERBE (VERY NEAR PRISTINE) still retaining its original glossy sheen from new!!. In strong light any marks that could possibly be seen would have been caused by the record been slid in and out of its sleeve only! (To be honest I can't see any at all).

The Audio

I have played this through track for track on a top system at very loud volume ! The audio is superbe cristal clear and vibrant through out! This plays like a new vinyl!. There were no clicks pops or any jumps truly awesome and very rare to find on an early seventies Stones album! pressing.!!!!! (NO) Signs of groovware at all, in fact all visable signs show that this has never been played before in my opinion! Unbeleivable to find like this! This audio is graded at the very top!!!!(please note! this has looks and sounds like this has never been played)!!!!!!

PLEASE NOTE! I always add this disclaimer! I have played this album prior to listing as usual and have given my honest opinion on the audio quality. Please remember this is a 36 years old original vinyl (not a reissue) Please allow for the odd static  (not) consistant through out the audio! This would have been originally played on a system that is 36 years old!!!

All indications i.e. that this vinyl has (not) been overplayed and in fact looks unplayed  in my opinion  The audio quality is superbe on all frequencies

An important point to note! This has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 30 years! A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves from laying dormant causes static crackle\ticks! A constant clean before each play is recomended! This will reduce tghis static and enhance the audio quality!

The Matrix

side 1. ''XZAL-9067-P-1W''

side 2. ''XZAL-9068-P-2W''

The Mother Stampers

side1. ''0 1'' ''H H''  (MEGA J.T TAX CODE STAMPED AT 12 OCLOCK TO TH MATRIX)This should be K.T. in line with the correct year!

side 2. ''1'' '' G H'' (MEGA J.T TAX CODE STAMPED AT 12 OCLOCK TO TH MATRIX) This should be K.T. in line with the correct year!

Please note! The J.T. tax code means that the materials used to press this vinyl were of much earlier than when this pressing was released this is why this has a thick and chunky type of vinyl only found on early pressings and produce the best audio quality!!

The labels

These feature the BLUE BOXED DECCA labels STEREO! In awesome condition like new! no scuffs in strong light only i can just barely see a feint fingerprint stain. I can't even see any spider marks!! in my opinion this certainly looks unplayed!!! Unbeleivable for an early seventies Stones vinyl!!!!

The Record Sleeve

This is the original HEXAGINAL STEREO sleeve in awesome condition (no) splits or tares! Becomiong fragile with age! Please note! The vinyl is now stored seperately from the sleeve and cover, This is how i have always stored my records!!!
