ROLLING STONES – SATANIC MAJESTIES REQUEST, 3D LONDON, Made JAMAICA
Unusual Jamaican stereo pressing of the 1967 Rolling Stones album, Their Satanic Majesties Request was made by Federal Record Manufacturing Co. Ltd. for the Decca Record Co. Ltd., London, and issued on the London label using the same catalogue number as UK issues – TXS 103. The label is undated. Matrix Nos: Side 1 – ZAL 8126-T2-4K; Side 2 – ZAL 8127-T2-5K. (Note: in 1972 Rolling Stones temporarily relocated to Jamaica following their drug related legal battles.)
Visually the disc is poor – many scratches and scuffs. Mostly it sounds a lot better than it looks – there are occasional areas of low level crackle (very brief) plus quite a few ticks but these are not intrusive and if you are enjoying the music you probably won’t notice them at all. BUT (a big BUT) at the end of Track 3, Side 1, it sticks and the arm needs to be manually shifted. The gatefold hologram sleeve is a Decca UK issue printed in England by Robert Stace. The hologram is overall good but does have surface wear and light scratches. The sleeve has considerable edge/corner wear, laminate lift at top left edge plus 5cm split at bottom right rear gatefold. The spine lettering "Decca" and "Stereo TXS 103" is clear.
