ROLLING STONES Their Satanic Majesties Request UK UNBOXED DECCA Mono MINT
This is a stunning condition UK original MONO pressing of the Rolling Stones' "Their Satanic Majesties Request " album on the UNBOXED Decca label. This copy is the BEST one I've ever seen - We've provided a number of scans and photos which should do it justice.
Here are some notes describing the condition.
The Labels
These are the original Silver on Blue UNBOXED Decca FFRR labels with the 15mm groove which you only find on the earliest pressings of this album. The labels are bright, the silver lettering shiny and complete and there are just a couple of spindle marks. They can be safely graded NEAR MINT.
The Vinyl
Is in MINT condition. I have rarely seen ANY 60's era record that has survived as well as this one. I can see two TINY hairline marks but that is all. The record still retains its "just minted" look and plays beautifully. In the run-out groove, the following codes are imprinted:
Side 1 - ARL-8126-1P
and
Side 2 - ARL-8127-P1.
I understand that these matrix numbers are a mistake and only the very first batch have them. Later ones apparently have a "1" appended to the matrix on the first side.
There is a KT tax code on each side. The mother stampers marks appear to be:
Side 1 - 20 UL
and
Side 2 - 2D UK
(I think! They're VERY faint. The catalogue numer is TXL 103.
The Inner sleeve
Is in EXCELLENT++ condition. It is the original red "Marbled" sleeve of delicate paper and I would have happily graded it NEAR MINT but there is a tiny nick (about 1/2 centimetre) on the centre of the opening (see top of scan) Otherwise the inner is in wonderful condition. There is VERY SLIGHT fading on one edge due to light and a couple of light creases on the bottom corners. The discs have NOT pushed through the bottom of the sleeve and it remains complete. There is no ringwear.
The Outer Sleeve
Is in NEAR MINT condition. It is an original MONO specific gatefold sleeve manufactured by Robert Stace. The outside part is glossily laminated, the inside has NO laminate. This is how it was manufactured. It features a 3D hologram inset of the band on the front. This is bright and shiny and a few very light marks aside is in stunning condition. Some glue marks, where this inset have been attached to the card cover, are visible on the edges, but this is a feature of manufacture nothing more. I believe this is the "Darker Blue" hologram found on the earliest pressings.
There is some VERY slight fading at the edge which may be due to light. There is a very small crease on the bottom left corner. The rear corner is MINT apart from a smear mark across the word "Request". See my photo. The spine is sharp, clear and undamaged. The edges are also in perfect condition without any folds or "dog-earing"
The inner part of the gatefold is in MINT condition. There is no writing or other marking and the colours are bright and clear.
Classic 40 year old plus albums rarely survive as well as this one and you are very unlikely to see a mono copy of this one in better condition EVER.
This copy comes from a cherished collection and more items will be listed in the coming months so please add us to your favourite sellers list. The collection includes a copy of the even rarer (in fact one of the rarest Rolling Stones collectables of all) PROMOTIONAL edition of this album with the PINK SILK padded sleeve. If anyone has further information on this item I'd be very glad to hear it!
