VERY SCARCE EARLY ORIGINAL SPANISH ALTERNATE COVER THE ROLLING STONES STICKY FINGERS
HISPAVOX HRSS 591-01
This an early original copy of the infamous alternate release of Sticky Fingers which was only available in Spain for a short period of time. The classic Warhol designed zipper sleeve was apparently banned because little was left to the imagination with the close-up of the jeans-clad male crotch. However, when the alternative design with a can of treacle was produced, seemingly Fowler's Treacle weren't too pleased either.
As well as objecting to the cover the Spanish censors also asked for the track Sister Morphine to be cut. Bizarrely as well as replacing it with a live version of Let It Rock the record company also included 30 seconds of silence which is noted on the label as 3. ... 0'30".
This album was re-released in 1981 on EMI and counterfeited in the 1990s, generally with poorly printed covers and on colored wax. This is the original 1971 pressing with the 30" silent track. In addition the album has:
- The Rolling Stones-Sticky Fingers-Rolling Stones Records label (1971 early original label release only have the lips)
- UK catalogue number in top right under the HRSS 591-01 on cover (the 1981 version only has one number)
- Stamped matrix numbers HRSS-591-01-A-3 & B-3
- Fabricado por Hispavox S.A. Madrid on label
- Distribuido par Hispavox S.A. on the sleeve
- Grooved label
The sleeve is in VG condition with some light creasing and [woc] in pencil (see photo). The heavyweight vinyl has a few scuff marks and a slight warp/wobble on side Side B at the start of ‘Bitch’ and continues into the second track Estoy Triste. That causes some surface noise but fades away but nothing that overpowers the music. Side A Same thing 'Brown Sugar' but has one skip near the beginning. Generally it plays and sounds close to EX but I will grade as VG+.
Album cover is overall in fine condition with some creasing to several areas also shows old tape to the bottom right. The back of cover shows some minor surface flecks or tears.
Please note there is no insert with this copy. However I will include the American version of the inner dj as depicted.
Happy bidding!
