The Rolling Stones : Stone Age 1D / 2D 1st Press 1971

This first pressing plays to a superb standard with no interference.  A couple of tracks have a different sonic 'quality' due to how they were recorded but there is no actual intrusion on the audio.  The clarity and depth of the audio is very impressive and the vinyl looks hardly played.  The Stones may not have wanted the album to be released but it does nonetheless have some great tracks on it.

The cover has been preserved so well and has hardly any shelf wear, a stunning example.  The poly-lined has only light wear.

Visual description

The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has a superb glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  Under a bright light I can only see a small number of faint wispy sleeve removal hairlines and nothing stands out.  The labels are super clean with barely any spindle wear.  The JT tax code can be seen on the S2 run off.

Play grading

'Look What You've Done' plays with stunning clarity with no sign of any interference - no clicks, pops or static.  There are a couple of barely audible ticks but that does not qualify as interference!  It is Mint in every way.

The intro on 'It's All Over Now' has no intrusion and the first verse and chorus are of the same standard.  It continues in the same precise way, the vocals are so clean and the instrumental sections very strong and clear.  Mint

'Confessin' The Blues' again plays with such clean audio.  A 'raw' sound without any background and Mint is deserved.

'One More Try' has a deeper, warm sound and exemplifies the different recording techniques they used in the 60s.  From start to finish there is no interference, the clarity is stunning.  Mint

The acoustic intro on 'As Tears Go By' plays perfectly and this applies to the entire track.  There is perhaps just a little sibilance on the vocal but that is no doubt due to how it recorded so shouldn't be downgraded really.  The is no background, not even a dust tick, but I will say Mint-

'The Spider And The Fly' ends the side with impeccable audio from the outset.  The intro is faultless and then every vocal and instrumental section plays with a clarity and warmth that is second to none.  Mint

'My Girl' has no interference as such, just a minor distorted sound on the vocal every now and then but again that is no doubt a result of how it was recorded etc.  I will say Near Mint though.

The classic 'Paint It Black' plays with stunning quality and there is nothing to detract from the audio.  A powerful version with no intrusion and no distortion.  Mint

'If You Need Me' plays with sublime audio with no background of any kind.  Another Mint track.

'The Last Time' just has a little of that tinny distorted sound so I will grade as Near Mint again.  No other intrusion.

'Blue Turns To Grey' plays with stunning clarity, warmth and depth and no background.  Mint

'Around And Around' ends the album with great quality throughout.  There is barely any inner groove distortion and the overall sonic quality is very impressive.  Mint- is fair.

The Cover & Inner Sleeve

The cover is in superb shape with barely any wear.  The top edge has just one tiny rub in the centre, it's easily missed, and the opening edge on the back cover has a very small 1.5 cm 'crimp' / rough feel.  These are very minor issues!  The laminated front cover is in lovely condition with no wear and the back cover is very clean also.  A stunning example.

The poly-lined stereo inner is in great shape with only some light creasing and one very small tear on the central aperture.

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
