Description

Released in the September of 1969 (just three months before Let It Bleed), Through The Past Darkly is one of the toughest original Stones' albums to obtain on mono. And with its vulnerable octagonal shaped laminated gatefold sleeve and octagonal custom inner, the mono set is near impossible to find in fine condition these days. And this beautiful rare complete mono package of sleeve, inner and disc IS in fine condition indeed.

Here then is a rare mono set of one of the greatest albums of all time, an original UK unboxed Decca copy of Through The Past Darkly by The Rolling Stones (LK 5019) from 1969.

This heavyweight slab of original vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable and plays brilliantly with sharp mono clarity. This strident mono mix comes across loud and clear. This includes Honky Tonk Women in full-on mono. Both sides of the disc look lovely when viewed in normal daylight and show only a few tiny marks when viewed under harsh halogen lighting. The album plays perfectly with no skips, jumps or clicks. The very early matrices are XARL-9067-P-1A and XARL-9068.P-3A. Only light spindle activity is apparent on these fine red Decca labels (see photos), indicating very little play over the last 41 years. This great playing mono copy of this outstanding Stones' album easily grades VG.

The original laminated octagonal Garrod & Lofthouse flipback gatefold sleeve is a rare surviving example of this fragile and vulnerable cover. All the edges are straight and true and the inner opening edge is perfectly strong and straight with no half-moon creasing, indicating very little use. The spine is near perfect with all text perfectly preserved, and the mono/stereo hole on the rear is also perfect. Someone, possibly the shop owner (as sleeves were often stored separately to discs), has marked a thin blue line through 'stereo', though this could easily be removed from the laminate if you wished. The unlaminated inner gatefold is just as good, and the two flipbacks are near perfect. This rare surviving sleeve easily grades VG+.

The original custom octagonal red mono inner sleeve is in rare well-preserved condition with no tears, splits or unwanted writing. The inner, always an indicator of the level of use or abuse a disc has received, is in fine VG condition with very little creasing.

It is indeed rare to find such a well preserved and complete mono package such as this with all three components of sleeve, inner and disc in such remarkable condition. Make no mistake - the mono version of this album is the one to own, with its original true early mono mixes and no attempts at reprocessing.

Good luck then if you are bidding. Swift payment required at end of auction please.
